Check out our Bovada esports betting review

The Bovada sportsbook recently introduced esports betting at their site, so our Bovada esports review will investigate the odds they include for your favourite games. Our Bovada esports betting review is going to look at much more than betting odds however. We will help you understand whether this is a safe place for you to wager by examining everything from the brand’s licensing to their payment methods and customer support options.

Bovada have been around for less than a decade, but they have already earned a good name for themselves in helping customers enjoy a range of competitive odds on popular US sports like football, basketball, baseball and ice hockey.

But our Bovada esports betting review is going to look at how the betting site caters to the needs of fans of games like Counter Strike Global Offensive, League of Legends and Overwatch. So read our full Bovada esports review and discover what kinds of esports bets are awaiting you.

Interface & Design Stylish site but can be tricky to find esports betting odds

Bovada have given their customers a stylish site that shows off all of the sports betting and casino gaming highlights with attractive graphics and banners that display the latest promotions. Despite this, our Bovada esports betting review found that it was actually fairly difficult to find the relevant esports odds. But once we’d clicked on the menu, selected sports, and then scrolled down to the esports tab, we could get a good idea of the esports odds on offer.

Taking a bet at Bovada was a similar process to that which you would find at other betting sites. Just click on the odds, add your betting stake to the betting slip, and then you can place your bets. Most of the basic tasks can be fairly easily carried out on the Bovada site with things like logging in and adding funds being relatively straightforward.

Whilst some aspects of the website were tricky to navigate, mobile users shouldn’t have too much of a problem. This is because Bovada have developed streamlined betting apps for Android, iOS and even Windows mobile devices to help you make esports bets on the go.

Bonus Offers & Free Bets 50% bonus up to $250 impressed our Bovada esports review

If you wanted to see what Bovada is all about, then you could do a lot worse than by picking up their welcome bonus. This is a strong matched deposit offer that matches 50% of your initial deposit up to $250 which is certainly larger than many welcome bonuses out there.

However, like many betting promotions, the Bovada sign up offer for new customers has some important wagering conditions to be aware of. These state that you will have to bet the total amounts of your deposit and bonus no less than five times on any of the sports betting options at the Bovada site.

Whilst there isn’t any time limit or qualifying odds for these wagering requirements, it still requires customers to put down some serious money if they wish to collect their winnings. So be sure to think carefully about how much you initially deposit when you are claiming the Bovada welcome bonus.

Payments Use credit cards, debit cards and Bitcoin on the Bovada sportsbook

In order to make an esports bet at Bovada, you will need to create an account and then deposit some funds. Bovada give you a much smaller choice of payment methods for making your deposits with the brand as you can only use credit cards, debit cards and Bitcoin for adding funds to your account.

Whilst most people will be comfortable with using a payment brand like Visa, MasterCard or American Express for making deposits, we should mention that Bovada add some processing fees. Although your first deposits are free, Bovada add a 5.9% fee to all following Visa and MasterCard deposits, and there is a 9.9% fee for subsequent American Express deposits. You can make deposits from $10 for your Bitcoin bets, and $20 with Visa and MasterCard.

Although there aren’t fees for making debit card withdrawals, Bovada will add a $100 processing fee for all Bitcoin withdrawals after the first free-of-charge Bitcoin withdrawal. You can make withdrawals from $10 at Bovada.

Esports Markets Lots of Bovada esports bets here

Whilst most customers would probably go to Bovada to bet on US sports like football, ice hockey, basketball and baseball, there’s also plenty of esports betting opportunities at the site. Our review found that Bovada offer you odds on iconic esports like Dota 2, Counter Strike Global Offensive, League of Legends and Starcraft, as well as some betting options for the recent Blizzard Entertainment title, Overwatch.

Most of the esports titles enjoyed a fair variety of betting markets so that you could bet on things like the match winner, correct score, as well as the winner of individual maps. Whilst there weren’t any odds for niche esports like Rocket League and World of Tanks, we thought that there was enough here to keep most esports betting fans happy. We have to remember that this is primarily a traditional sports betting website, so we can’t judge Bovada too harshly for not including some smaller esports titles amongst their odds.

Live Streaming Fair in-play bets found in our Bovada esports review

Live betting is an essential part of the esports betting experience. And there’s nothing like watching a live stream of an esports event to add some precision to your esports bets. So this is why we were a little disappointed with the fact that Bovada have failed to include any live streaming options for their in-play esports betting.

Despite this, we were encouraged to see how the betting site have included plenty of betting markets in their live betting area. For a standard Dota 2 game, we found 12 different kinds of in-play bets that covered everything from the first team to get 10 kills, to the team to draw first blood. So whilst Bovada might have let us down through their lack of streaming, they might have made up for it by providing plenty of interesting in-play betting markets.

Odds and Limits Decent odds for most esports

As Bovada have their origins in North America, they present their betting odds in the American format. Whilst this can take some getting used to, it’s actually an easy way to see how much you would need to wager to earn a $100 betting profit. But in order to see whether Bovada give you good value for your esports bets, we decided to compare some of their odds to that of a traditional sports bookmaker. We took a look at an upcoming ESEA Europe match between the CSGO teams Epsilon and Superjymy. Bovada offered customers odds of -150 for an Epsilon win which compared favourably to the odds of -200 found at the William Hill esports bookmaker.

However, before you get carried away, it’s worth remembering that Bovada might be slightly less generous with their betting limits. The betting site doesn’t state how much you can win on your esports bets, but seeing as you can only win $500 on a golf bet, we don’t think that their esports betting limits are going to be too extravagant.

Customer Service Email support and helpful FAQ

Regardless of whether you are a newcomer to sports betting, or are an experienced pro, then there’s a good chance that you will need to get in contact with a betting site’s customer service team at some point.

Sadly, Bovada only allow you to contact them through a basic email form. Whilst this is adequate, it’s not too promising when you compare it to other betting sites that include free live chat and telephone hotline options. But we should mention that Bovada have taken the time to create a simple and straightforward FAQ section that is full of useful articles relating to everything from deposits to betting rules.

Security Did our Bovada esports review find any official licensing?

In order to be able to safely bet on esports, you will first need to check whether that betting site has official licensing and regulation. There have been many unfortunate instances in recent times of esports betting sites operating without a license which is not only illegal, but also means that the customer has little in the way of protection should anything go wrong.

Most betting sites will clearly display their relevant gambling license at the bottom of their homepage. But when we checked, we couldn’t find any evidence of the brand being licensed to offer bets. We also looked at the betting site’s terms and conditions, but again there was nothing here to suggest that Bovada are licensed to facilitate gambling. This is definitely troubling and so we would encourage customers to think twice before depositing their funds and entering any personal information at this betting site.

However, it seems that Bovada have made real efforts to make their site as secure as possible. As well as implementing a thorough verification process, the betting site is protected by secure socket layer technology to create an encrypted link between your browser and the site’s server. Whilst this is no compensation for not clearly displaying their gambling license, it does suggest that your personal details and deposits will be safe at the betting site.

Conclusion Final thoughts in our Bovada esports betting review

Our Bovada review discovered plenty of interesting facts about this betting site. We were surprised to find just how many esports bets were available at a site that’s best known for its odds for US sports, but we were also disappointed to find that Bovada didn’t make more of an effort to display any relevant gambling licensing.

In fact most of our Bovada review had a good point balanced by a negative impression. Whilst the welcome bonus could give new customers a nice $250 matched deposit offer, it was let down by some fairly hefty wagering conditions. Similarly, we were impressed by Bovada’s excellent odds for some esports, only to realise that the betting site had implemented some very strict betting limits.

One thing that we couldn’t ignore was the fact that Bovada seem to apply some very harsh processing fees for deposits and withdrawals. This is pretty inexcusable as the majority of online betting sites are able to let customers add funds and withdraw winnings without any charges. When you couple this with the relative lack of choice in payment options, it seems that Bovada have some work to do.

It’s issues like this that make Bovada such a frustrating bookmaker. Whilst the brand have managed to capture our attention through competitive odds, interesting betting markets and user-friendly apps, it seems that they have overlooked some of the most important parts of the betting experience.

Sadly this is nowhere more evident than when it comes to the Bovada licensing. We think that a betting site’s license is perhaps the most important part of their betting service, and if Bovada fail to clearly illustrate that they are fully licensed by an official gambling organisation, then we can’t really recommend them to esports betting fans. Hopefully Bovada will work on this in the future, but until then, it seems that there are much better esports betting options out there.
