Participants

GESC: Thailand Dota2 Minor features 9 teams from 6 different regions:

  • Europe: Team Secret, The Final Tribe.
  • CIS: Vega Squadron.
  • North America: Evil Geniuses, VGJ.Storm.
  • South America: SG e-sports.
  • China: Keen Gaming.
  • Southeast Asia: Alpha Red.

Main contenders

Being the last Minor of the season and taking place at around the same time when several other massive tournaments are scheduled, GESC: Thailand Dota2 Minor failed to spark the interest of the top-level teams and only 3 of those teams are attending it. No doubt, one of them will take the title.

Team Secret

Team Secret is currently sitting at a comfortable number 3 spot in the Dota Pro Circuit rankings table, being almost assured of its direct qualification at The International 2018. Secret won no less than 3 tournaments this season, including one Major (DreamLeague Season 8).

Going into GESC: Thailand Dota2 Minor, Team Secret is one of the main contenders and the most likely team to win the title. It remains to be seen whether or not Puppey and his teammates can actually do it, but in principle there’s not much to stop them from achieving this result.

Team Secret

Evil Geniuses

Evil Geniuses is the winner of the previous GESC Dota 2 Minor, namely GESC: Indonesia. Because of this, but also because if its excellent roster, EG is the second most likely team to win this event.
At the time of this writing, Evil Geniuses is sitting at number 9 in the Dota Pro Circuit rankings table, just below PSG.LGD. A victory at this tournament is an absolute necessity for the North American squad, if it wants to climb back into top 8 and get a direct invite at the next edition of The International.

Fnatic

Fnatic is another team that desperately needs a win here, sitting at number 11 in the Dota Pro Circuit rankings table. The team’s peak performances this season have been a 2nd place finish at DOTA Summit 8, another 2nd place finish at the recent DreamLeague Season 9 Minor, a 3rd – 4th place finish at StarLadder ImbaTV Invitational Season 5 and a 4th place finish at the ESL One Katowice 2018 Major. Apart from these results, Fnatic hasn’t done much else.

Still, even though it’s not exactly a top 8 team at the moment, Fnatic is one of the main contenders at GESC: Thailand Dota2 Minor, simply because the level of competition is very low.

Apart from these 3 teams, keep an eye on The Final Tribe and Keen Gaming, as they too are likely to have a deep run at this event.
