The 2018 CWL Pro League is the most important Call of Duty offline league in the world. Operated by MLG, Sledgehammer Games and Activision it reached its conclusion after two stages and the playoffs. The stage was set for an epic confrontation at the end of July, when the remaining 8 teams stepped into the spotlight. Team Kaliber, Echo Fox, Faze Clan, Optic Gaming, eUnited, UNILAD Esports, Rise Nation and Red Reserve resumed their quest for glory on Friday.

With $500,000 in prizes and the coveted Pro Points up for grabs, the stakes were as high as they get. The Hardpoint, Capture the Flag and Search and Destroy game types were used and players competed on familiar maps. Ardennes Forest, London Docks, Saint Marie Du Mont, USS Texas, Valkyrie, Flak Tower and Gibraltar were the arenas where they showcased their skills.

Rough playoff start for the favorites

Only four teams managed to win double-digit games during the group stage and two of them lost in the opening round of the playoffs. Red Reserve was the most dominant team in the groups with 11 victories, but they fell to Rise Nation. The last placed team among the Division B qualifiers defeated them by 3:1, before prevailing with the same score against eUnited. Elsewhere, Optic Gaming and Unilad who won 10 matches in the groups were both sent to the Loser’s brackets after 3:1 defeats.

The 2018 Call of Duty World League Pro League format meant that the vanquished teams have a second chance. Optic Gaming failed to capitalize on this opportunity, but Red Reserve made the most of it and was rewarded like a Phoenix. Back-to-back victories against Echo Fox and FaZe Clan brought them on a collision course with eUnited. When the two teams with the best records in the Group Stage locked horns, it was the winner of Division A that prevailed.

Team Kaliber’s Kenny leads wins the tournament MVP Title

Team Kaliber cruised through the group stage and were the most dominant team in the playoffs as well. They made short work of UNILAD and were able to sweep FaZe Clan in the second round before locking horns with Rise Nation. Because they were able to defeat them 3:1 and send them to the Loser’s brackets they started with a big advantage in the grand final. Their opponents managed to force a decisive best-of-five series but were ultimately defeated 2:1 by Team Kaliber.

TK won the first prize worth $212,500 and 40,000 Pro points, while the runners up got 35,000 points and $132,500. It was a remarkable performance for Team Kaliber, one of the most reliable squads throughout the tournament. All team members contributed to that victory, but it was Kenny who made the difference in the decisive moments. Not surprisingly, he was nominated as the 2018 CWL Pro League MVP for the way he led teammates Accuracy, Enable and Fero to victory.
