Best supports to play with Aphelios in LoL
If you’re wondering which supports work best with Aphelios, here are the five champions you should be playing with him this season.
The best supports for Aphelios are champions who can protect him while he scales and amplify his late-game carry potential by setting up with good crowd controls. Given his lack of mobility and high damage ceiling, he thrives alongside supports who can either shield and disengage or frontline and peel around skirmishes and decisive teamfights.
The evergreen supports for him are Lulu and Thresh.
Other picks can depend on the meta – Milio is a great alternative to Lulu in most scenarios while Nautilus offers strong lockdown potential and can be considered a secondary option to Thresh.

The best supports to play with Aphelios in LoL
Aphelios was a game-changer when it was first introduced to LoL. He became the first champion to be designed with five different weapons, each having clear strengths and weaknesses. While it may sound like overpowered, the proficiency required to master this champion is among the highest not only in his class but within the whole game.
Knowing how to rotate the weapons and making sure you’re always wielding the right ones to play the teamfights requires incredible understanding of the champion and several other aspects of the game. Up until today, there aren’t many players who can bring out his maximum potential, making him a high Elo-specific pick.
That being said, there is an increasing number of players who are looking to master Mr. 200 years and having the right supports alongside you will increase your chances of victory. Therefore, here are the five best supports you should be playing with Aphelios. Let’s see how each duo works.
Thresh – the no. 1 support for Aphelios
Few champions complement Aphelios as well as Thresh. He’s one of the few supports in the game that offer both peeling and engage potential, making him one of the best all-around champions in the role — and a perfect fit for an immobile ADC champion like Aphelios.
The best thing about Thresh is the crowd control he offers throughout his kit. Whether it’s landing a hook or hitting his Flay (E) on the enemies, he can keep focused targets locked down for Aphelios to dish out his damage, both during the laning phase and in the teamfights. Those same abilities can also be used defensively to peel his marksman, giving enough room for Aphelios to kite back and reposition. And if things get desperate, there will always be the lantern to save Mr. 200 years.
While it’s currently the best pairing, it requires incredible coordination between the two players to nail down all the mechanics. Don’t first time this duo in ranked without having at least played a few games together to understand limits and matchups.

- Lantern offers crucial repositioning and safety
- Hook threat controls lane even when not used
- Scales well with Aphelios’s late-game teamfighting
- Strong synergy with Aphelios’s CC-focused weapons
- Flexible playstyle—can peel or engage as needed
- Requires mechanical skill and timing to play well
- Missed hooks can backfire and leave Aphelios exposed
- Squishier than most tank supports early game
Lulu – The best enchanter support
If you’re not into tank or engage supports, then the best champion to play with Aphelios is none other than Lulu. The Yordle is perfect to peel and protect her ADC across all stages of the game, making sure he can scale up relatively safely and boost him around skirmishes and teamfights.
All she has to do is make sure she times her abilities and disrupts any potential engage attempts from the opponents with her polymorph (W). If Aphelios is about to get shut down, cast the ultimate on him and create more space against the threats around him.
You’re not looking to win the laning phase with this pick, so don’t trade aggressively unless the enemy messes up. Once Aphelios hits at least two items, you can try to force more plays with the rest of the team. This duo puts a lot more pressure on the ADC as he must not get caught out of position.

- Increases Aphelios’s survivability and damage output
- Straightforward synergy—easy to play around
- Low kill pressure early unless ahead
- Needs proper positioning to avoid being caught
Milio – The Lulu alternative
If Lulu is not a champion you’re comfortable playing or if she is picked by the enemy team, be aware you can play Milio as her alternative. He does similar things to what Lulu does with Aphelios, with the main exception that he brings even more healing to the table and the ability to cleanse crowd controls, which can be game-changing against certain team compositions.
Moreover, his W passively boosts Aphelios’s attack range, allowing him to outrange most of his opponents and kite freely both during the laning phase and in the teamfights. Compared to Lulu, though, you lose out on early game pressure even more so the focus is to not get punished early on by the enemy bot lane. Play for scaling and wait for the long game to come out on top.

- Boosts range, allowing for safer and more aggressive spacing
- Cleanse + heal ultimate can completely shut down enemy engages
- Excellent scaling with strong utility in late-game fights
- Synergizes with Aphelios’s DPS
Braum – The underrated support pairing
Even though enchanters are generally strong champions with Aphelios, there are other good tank options and one of them is Braum. Compared to Thresh, Braum is stronger at peeling his partner, acting as the perfect front line and fending off potential engages from the enemy team.
The high DPS from Aphelios and his weapons perfectly synergize with Braum’s passive to stun different enemy targets, creating windows for high-damage trades without overcommitting. On top of that, he can block incoming projectiles, something Aphelios generally struggles with due to his low mobility.
Go for this bot lane duo when you’re looking to play kite back team compositions or if you have other champions with great lockdown potential.

- Amazing peel and protection against dives
- Passive stun pairs well with Aphelios’s DPS
- Blocks skillshots and pokes that would otherwise chunk Aphelios
- Strong into melee engage comps
Nami – One of the best meta supports for Aphelios
Even though Nami isn’t usually considered the best pick for the ADC, her popularity and power in the support tier list allow her to be effective with Aphelios too. Compared to Lulu or Milio, Nami brings better trading potential thanks to her heals and stronger poke.
This bot lane duo can look for more aggressive trades to gain early edges and snowball to take over the game. It’s a higher risk, higher-reward combination that is reliant on Aphelios’ ability to weave in lots of auto attacks when farming and force the enemies into making unfavorable trades when contesting minion waves. Thanks to Nami’s heals, the ADC can survive the laning phase for longer and lower the risk of getting punished.

- Strong laning trades and sustain
- Bonus slows help Aphelios stick to targets
- Decent peel and powerful teamfight engage
- Scales well and adapts to various lane matchups
