Is FIFA 22 Cross-platform? Our Guide to FIFA 22 Crossplay
Want to know is FIFA 22 cross-platform? You’re in the right place! There is something of a complicated answer here, but things are looking good if you want to play this football simulator against friends. So take a look below to see what your FIFA 22 crossplay options are!
What we mean by FIFA 22 crossplay
When we say games that are cross-platform, we mean those games where people can play together regardless of what kind of console or PC they are playing from.
So you might have one player using an Xbox and another using a PlayStation, and they’d still be able to take part in the same multiplayer games. We’ve got a separate guide that answers the basic question of, ‘What is cross-platform?’ here, but that’s enough to get you started!
Is FIFA 22 cross-platform?
While there are currently some FIFA 22 crossplay gaming options, they are fairly limited. Essentially it means that you can only enjoy full crossplay if you are playing the Online Seasons and Online Friendlies modes.
This means that it doesn’t matter whether you’re playing via a PC, Xbox, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch or even Google Stadia as you can take part in the same contests as anyone else. All of these should give you a much more fun way of climbing up the FIFA rankings.
FIFA 22 was originally released without any form of crossplay functionality. However, it looks like EA Sports is still testing out the cross-platform features in the above modes. This means that there is hope that full crossplay functionality could be released in future updates of the football simulator.
Is FIFA 22 cross-platform in terms of console generations?
Kind of! There are crossplay facilities if you are using one of the last-generation consoles and you want to play against someone with one of the newer consoles.
For example, someone using a PS4 can play against someone with a PS5, and the same is true for a gamer with an Xbox One and a gamer with an XBox Series X|S.
It’s worth noting that the player on the later version of the console will have to be playing the PS4 or Xbox One version of FIFA on their device. But you’ll still have access to all of the FIFA 22 crossplay pro clubs, the FIFAe World Cup and so on.

What will FIFA crossplay be like in the future?
EA Sports has made a big point about future crossplay projects in its Pitch Notes blog. Here you can get lots of updates about the state of the current crossplay options and get a fair idea of what’s to come.
One thing is clear and that is that EA Sports are committed to cross-platform gameplay, and it’s only a matter of time before this becomes a staple part of the franchise.
