F1 CrossPlay – The Peak of Connected Racing
F1, popularly known as Formula 1 is the premier motorsport event in the world, with millions of fans all over the world, the sport is one of passion, intensity, pride and courage. F1 races are fast-paced, high octane and involve the peak level of human skill, this is the reason millions of fans gather at race tracks all over the world to watch the races. The world of F1 and gaming may not seem to have anything in common. Still, since the advent of racing games, Formula 1 has been a mainstay in the gaming world since the very first F1 game in 1983, and now thanks to the improvement of gaming tech and F1, E-racing has become one of the most popular eSports in the world.
Now It’s 2024, and EA is the sole publisher of the F1 video game and has been for the last 23 years; they have put out amazing F1 racing simulators and have players all over the world competing online, but a question remains “Is F1 crossplay ?”.

F1 CrossPlay: Racing Through the Years
F1 games came into being in 2000, with its first title and every year since then, we’ve gotten a new F1 game with increased graphics, better mechanics, and updated cars and drivers. Even the game modes and multiplayer aspects got better, especially the introduction of F1 cross-play. In our attempt to answer the question “Is F1 cross platform?” we will answer that question for every F1 game until F1 cross-play was introduced, and they are:
- EA Sports F1 (1999–2002) – Split screen multiplayer.
- Sony F1 series (2003-2006) – Split Screen multiplayer.
In 2009 Codemasters held the exclusive rights to make F1 games and released some of the first F1 games to have online multiplayer. They were;
- F1 2010 – Online multiplayer, LAN play, split-screen (console versions).
- F1 2011 – Online multiplayer, LAN play, split-screen (console versions).
- F1 2012 – Online multiplayer, LAN play, split-screen (console versions).
- F1 2013 – Online multiplayer, LAN play, split-screen (console versions).
- F1 2014 – Online multiplayer, LAN play.
- F1 2015 – Online multiplayer.
- F1 2016 – Online multiplayer, LAN play.
- F1 2017 – Online multiplayer, LAN play.
- F1 2018 – Online multiplayer.
- F1 2019 – Online multiplayer, LAN play.
- F1 2020 – Online multiplayer.
- F1 2021 – Online multiplayer.
Although we had Online multiplayer, we still lacked F1 cross-play, but hopefully, that would end, because soon after the release of F1 2021, EA acquired Codemasters and subsequently all games under them. EA then released the first set of F1 games with cross-platform enabled, F1 2022 and F1 2023, to answer the question, “Is F1 cross platform?”.
Conclusion
F1 2022 and 2023 allow you to play with others via crossplay, so regardless of your platform, as long as you and your friends have purchased the game, you can all race against each other. If you like racing with your friends in more street-worthy cars, then check out Need for Speed crossplay here.
