Blacklist, Omega duel for Playoffs in Week 8 – MPL Philippines Season 9

Last week at the Mobile Legends Professional League Philippines (MPL PH) Season 9, we saw four teams making it to Playoffs. Another team was added to the three who already qualified the previous week, while another made it clear why they deserve a spot in the competition and is now sitting at the top of the standings.

Additionally, the four remaining teams are deciding the final two spots in Playoffs, and plenty of potential scenarios and combinations to look at.

Here’s a recap of some of the best performing teams during this Week 7, and a look at the final Week 8 in MPL PH Season 9.

MPL PH BLCKL

RSG topping everyone

They may not have the most hype, but RSG Philippines does the job clean. The team that was sitting behind ECHO Philippines and TNC most of the season is now the top team and current kings of the standings.

RSG became the first team this season to have three matches during an MPL PH regular-season weekend. From day 1 up to day 3, the team did a match each day. They finished with a 2-1 record for all of their outings this week but ended up with the highest overall score so far with 28 points while listing a 10-3 match win-loss record and a 21-9 game win-loss record as well. They pummeled TNC on day 1, 2-0, followed by a dominating victory against the super team of ECHO, recording another 2-0 masterpiece.

However, they came up short against M3 world champion Blacklist International, 2-1, but that was already enough to put them on top of everyone else so far in MPL PH season 9. Dylan “Light” Catipon from RSG bagged the MVP of the week honors after he averaged 1.86 kills, 2.00 deaths, and 7.71 assists in the three matches they played.

It’s Blacklist who are the talk of the town now, and at the end of this article.

Onic bounces back, secures Playoffs spot

Onic Philippines had some struggles last week after they failed to continue their momentum from week 5. And also this week, it was an even trade for them after winning one and also losing one of their two matches. But what’s more important is the bigger picture. And now the M3 finalist is a Playoff contender already.

While Onic managed to pull off a 2-1 victory against MSC 2021 champion Omega Esports during day 1, the team failed to again continue their momentum after they were swept by TNC, 2-0, during day 3. But despite this, they garnered enough points to secure a spot in the Playoffs, with the team now holding 17 points, a 7-5 match win-loss record, and an even 16-16 game win-loss listing.

Onic’s jungler, Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol also notched the player with the most kills so far in the whole MPL PH season 9, now with 145 total kills. He is also second behind ECHO’S Karl “Karltzy” Nepomuceno in terms of average kills per game, with the former averaging 5.56 while the latter has 4.53.

Last chance for Blacklist & Omega Esports

Four more teams seek to secure a spot in the Playoffs. Nexplay Evos, Blacklist International, Omega Esports, and Bren Esports are currently in the bottom four of the standings.

Nexplay currently has 16 points, followed by Blacklist with 14, a close Omega with 13, and Bren with 10. Nothing is impossible for all of these teams. But chances to make it to the Playoffs are already nearing their end. Nexplay and Blacklist have the upper hand so far to make it, though we don’t know what is going to happen, especially with Omega and Bren having the capability to pull off major comebacks during clutch moments.

I have faith Blacklist will rally in their final week and secure their Playoffs ahead of the rest. To do so, they have to win their head2head against Omega Esports, who lost 4 out of 5 duels recently. OMG are still coming hot from a win against Nexplay last week. The duel between Blacklist and Omega might just be our “Match of the Week” to close out the regular season.

Catch all the final week action starting Friday, April 8th.
