Atlanta FaZe Is OpTic Texas’ Kryptonite in the CDL This Season
Following another weekend of Call of Duty League-themed action, one thing has become clear: OpTic Texas can’t handle Atlanta FaZe. For the longest time, OpTic was a thorn in the side of Atlanta FaZe, with the team constantly proving unbeatable – but all that is changing. This weekend, Atlanta FaZe beat OpTic Texas for the sixth time back-to-back this season, setting out a dominant streak in the most impressive way imaginable.
To add insult to injury, one of the most recent losses that OpTic Texas suffered at the hands of Atlanta FaZe came during the Grand Final of Major II. OpTic came within sniffing distance of the trophy but was shot down in a closing stage that saw Atlanta FaZe sweep the tournament 4 – 1 to secure the large cash prize and stock of CDL points. For the most part, OpTic Texas is having a white-hot season, sitting in third place and proving nigh unstoppable against other teams – but Atlanta FaZe is the team’s kryptonite.
The Tables Have Turned
It has been an interesting start to the Major III Qualifiers. During the brief break between stages, many roster changes occurred, with some organisations changing up half of their team structure to improve going forward. One of the biggest changes was Standy returning to Minnesota Rokkr, flanked by Gunless. This move saw Vivid drop and Owakening pushed to the bench, but it hasn’t proved to be a successful change, with Rokkr losing two matches this weekend, one against FaZe and the other against NYSL.
Similarly, the Los Angeles Guerrillas suffered immeasurably this weekend, failing to secure a single map against Toronto Ultra and Vegas Legion. It looked as though LAG was picking up in recent weeks, especially given a recent win over Atlanta FaZe, but the team remains a mid-table side just managing to escape the ‘relegation zone’. Boston Breach remains at the flat bottom of the table despite recent changes that saw Beans and Pentagrxm join the squad.
It has been a rocky season so far for the boys from Boston, with very little in the way of results against any team other than mid-to-bottom table sides.
Major III
Going into Major III, Atlanta FaZe looks unbelievably impressive. The team has likely undergone an injection of positive morale after the win secured at Major II, which was the first time the team lifted a trophy in more than 400 days. Sitting at the top of the table by a good distance, Atlanta FaZe now enjoys a strong position over the rest of the Call of Duty League. The power players have been well and truly established for the CDL 2024 season, and all eyes are on the upcoming Major III tournament, which will take place in Toronto.

At this point, it’s effectively an ongoing clash between Atlanta FaZe, Toronto Ultra, OpTic Texas, and the New York Subliners. Some teams are falling through the cracks entirely and being forgotten about while these titans of the League constantly rub up against one another. It seems that for the CDL 2024 season, the underdog spirit of the League has been extinguished. Despite the shortcomings of the series, it all remains popular – which was a topic touched on recently by OpTic Texas’ Dashy.
