Black Ops 6 Multiplayer: 16 Maps, Crazy Movement, and Gunsmith

Black Ops 6 is coming on October 25, and recently, Activision Blizzard published a huge breakdown of the game. In a 25-minute video, Black Ops 6 was explored from all angles, and a few key aspects of the game’s multiplayer platform were outlined. While the reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase was reserved mostly for the game’s single-player portion, some of the core multiplayer mechanics were detailed by Raven Software and Treyarch.

At the top of the table sits the news that Black Ops 6 will have 16 maps, 12 of which will be reserved for traditional 6v6 combat. No remastered maps will be making their way into Black Ops 6 just yet – every map has been created fresh from the ground up for this year’s Call of Duty title.

Black Ops 6 Multiplayer Reveal Coming Soon

While we know enough about Black Ops 6’s multiplayer ecosystem to get excited, a full reveal will take place on August 28. On that day, Call of Duty NEXT will unravel, with Activision Blizzard breaking down the future of the franchise.

For now, there are a few tidbits we can break down from the recent Black Ops 6 reveal.

It was confirmed that 16 maps will be appearing in Black Ops 6, and all of them are based ‘after’ the campaign has wrapped up. In traditional fashion, they’ll see players revisit portions of the single-player part of the game, so it’ll help to have played the campaign to get some idea of what’s going on. One of the biggest talking points about Black Ops 6 is the new ‘Omnidirectional’ movement mechanics, which will see players traverse the map in a more fluid way than ever before.

The game is also highly customisable, with players being invited to tweak their HUD and other elements to suit their playstyle. For instance, streamers can customise their UI to accommodate their camera or graphics, and players who want a more hardcore feel can opt to strip their UI away entirely. The team also confirmed that Gunsmith is returning and not the ‘Pick Ten’ system that players were hoping for, but it’s not the end of the world.

Everything we’ve come to know and love from Call of Duty will be present. Thus far, only a few snippets of information have been confirmed, but in August, we’ll get the full scope of Black Ops 6’s modes, the game’s operating model, weapons, and more customisation features.
