CDL Major III Bracket Set Following Dramatic Final Qualifying Week
From May 16 to May 19, the Call of Duty League Major III tournament will take place in Toronto. This event boasts a massive $375,000 prize pool, and for the last few weeks, the qualifiers have been exploding online. In dramatic fashion, the final qualifying weekend wrapped up last night, with some teams dealing with some heavy losses. The power players have been clearly outlined ahead of Major III, and it’s only a matter of time before the grand victor is crowned.
Following a stunning stage, Atlanta FaZe sits at the top of the table with the highest expectations. Presently, the team is on a white-hot winning streak, having won 11 matches back-to-back, including the Major II grand final against OpTic Texas. There are no signs of FaZe slowing down as Major III approaches, and the team is the firm favourite to win the event and scoop the $150,000 top prize.
Major News
It has been a turbulent few months for the Call of Duty League. From concerns following layoffs to the jubilation of the organisations as Activision cancelled all League entry payments, it has been a rocky time of late. There are concerns around viewership in the CDL, but the consensus is that the next Call of Duty title, combined with a reworking of the system for the CDL 2025 season, will help to revive things massively.
Moving into Major III, the bracket is set and the early schedule is live. It’s an interesting layout, with the typical teams boasting top spots in the winner’s bracket, with a few exceptions. For instance, the Carolina Royal Ravens sits in the winner’s bracket for the first time this season, but the team’s first match is against OpTic Texas, one of the top four power players in the League this season.
Here are the opening fixtures confirmed for the CDL Major III event:
Thursday, May 16
- Atlanta FaZe vs. Miami Heretics
- LA Thieves vs. New York Subliners
- Toronto Ultra vs. Seattle Surge
- OpTic Texas vs. Carolina Royal Ravens
Friday, May 17
- TBD vs. Vegas Legion
- TBD vs. Boston Breach
- TBD vs. Minnesota Rokkr
- TBD vs. Los Angeles Guerrillas
With the state of play so far, it’s easy to predict an Atlanta FaZe vs. Toronto Ultra grand final, but the general hope is that Atlanta wins the top spot again.
What’s Next?
After Major III, qualifiers will begin for Major IV, the final tournament of the CDL season before COD Champs rolls around. Major IV will run from May 31 to June 30, which should land COD Champs in August – two months later than it took place in 2024. This year, an extension was made to the qualifying stages of each round so that the CDL would last longer, preventing such a large gap between the end of one season and the start of another.
Later this year, Call of Duty 2024 will be released, and it’s widely expected that it’ll be titled ‘Black Ops 6.’ There’s a grand reveal planned for the coming weeks that’ll give us a much better idea of what we’re waiting for.
