Cloud9 Picks Up Subliners Roster Ahead of EWC
Cloud9 is continuing the acquisition spree ahead of next month’s Esports World Cup. It was just announced that the organisation has secured the New York Subliners roster consisting of HyDra, Sib, Skyz, and KiSMET. This move was on the cards for a few days, but now it’s out there and official – the New York Subliners’ squad is heading to the Esports World Cup in Riyadh. This is Cloud9’s effort to cover as many bases as possible to get a better chance at winning the Club Championship.
Cloud9 hasn’t been seen in the Call of Duty space since 2017, and the last game that the organisation competed in was Black Ops 3. Following the restructuring that brought about the Call of Duty League, traditional organisations like Cloud9 lost their presence in the space, with Activision leaning on a city-based franchise model instead. Now, after securing one of the tastiest rosters in the Call of Duty space, Cloud9 is in a solid position to dominate the Modern Warfare 3 category at the Esports World Cup.
Warzone, Too
It isn’t just Modern Warfare 3 that Cloud9 is covering when the Esports World Cup rolls around. It has also picked up Warzone competitors, securing JoeWo, ForeignJase, and Breadman. This trio will represent Cloud9 in the popular battle royale title at the EWC. Altogether, this puts C9 in a very strong spot for the record-breaking tournament – especially with the New York Subliners. Over the last two years, NYSL has been one of the most consistent teams in the CDL, and last season, the squad won two Majors and COD Champs.
Recently, Cloud9 revealed that it was also entering the Rainbow Six Siege space after joining forces with Beastcoast. Just weeks ago, Beastcoast dominated an entire tournament to win its first major trophy – and a stack of cash.
C9 is now one of the best-positioned teams in the Club Championship. This is the special category that will see organisations fight to secure points across a range of games, with the winner receiving a staggering sum of cash. Presently, Cloud9 fields teams in the following esports games:
- Apex Legends
- Modern Warfare III
- Warzone
- Rainbow Six Siege
- Counter-Strike 2
- League of Legends
- ML:BB
- Rocket League
- StarCraft II
- Street Fighter 6
- TEKKEN 8
That alone is enough to almost guarantee Cloud9 a strong finish at the Esports World Cup. Even a string of mid-table results will give the organisation enough points to sit atop the Club Championship standings.
