Call of Duty Skins Won’t ‘Carry Over’ Into Black Ops 6

It has been claimed by a prominent Call of Duty leaker that skins unlocked in Modern Warfare 2 (2022) and Modern Warfare 3 (2023) won’t carry over into Black Ops 6. This news comes just one day ahead of the official reveal of Black Ops 6 by Activision Blizzard, but for the most part, it was expected. It was suggested that previously owned skins would be accessible in Call of Duty: Warzone, but Black Ops 6 will feature a ‘reset’ of sorts that blocks all previously released skins from being ‘equippable’.

This is good news for some and terrible news for others. For those who purchase skins willy-nilly in anticipation of them always porting to the next game, it’s awful news. It doesn’t matter if you’ve spent $10 or $1000 on skin packs in the last year or two, they’ll be null and void when you start playing Black Ops 6. For those who welcome a fresh slate in Black Ops 6, some of the more ‘fantastical’ skins won’t be ported into the game, which helps restore a little of the realistic sense of immersion that the game promises to deliver.

No More Carrying Over

Between Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3, everything was carried over. That meant that weapon unlocks, operator skins, tracer packs, and everything in between ported across the wire between the two games. It helped to align the two titles but it meant that there was more ammo for the argument that Modern Warfare 3 was ‘just an expansion to Modern Warfare 2.’

As we advance and move into Black Ops 6, nothing will ‘go across’. There will be a complete reset of sorts, and while players will be able to link their Activision account to Black Ops 6 like always, nothing beyond profile details will be available in this year’s Call of Duty title. It’s time to start rebuilding that collection of skins and cosmetics from the ground up, unfortunately.

In recent weeks, countless details have leaked from behind the scenes at Activision Blizzard. We’ve learned that Black Ops 6 will have unparalleled movement mechanics and that the classic ‘prestige system’ should be making a grand reappearance. The triple-header offering will feature an advanced multiplayer platform, a gritty single-player campaign featuring returning and iconic characters, and a round-based Zombies mode that should have two maps when the game is released later this year.

It’s one hell of a package, and reports suggest that it has been in development for several years. There are high hopes that will have been enough to guarantee a top-tier Call of Duty title will bring the series back to form this year.
