OpTic Sweeps Ultra To Win First CDL Trophy in 805 Days
This weekend’s Major III tournament in the Call of Duty League was one of the most memorable events in recent years. OpTic Texas stormed to the grand final and deleted Toronto Ultra, producing a 4 – 0 sweep that was reminiscent of the Subliners wiping Ultra at CDL Champs last year. It was the best performance out of the squad since OpTic won Major I in March 2022 during the Vanguard season, and it left fans gobsmacked.
It was a dramatic week all around, with OpTic Texas being catapulted into the lower bracket by Toronto early on. That wasn’t the end, though – OpTic Texas went on to beat (and eliminate) Miami, New York, and Atlanta FaZe from the tournament, meeting Ultra once again in the grand final. The grudge match of the year ended with Ultra barely getting room to breathe and failing to secure a single map, which is fast becoming a trend for the organisation.

OpTic Texas put on a remarkable show in Toronto this weekend, and it was almost impossible to determine the tournament MVP. It was awarded to Shotzzy, but it could have gone either way amongst the four players of OpTic Texas. From Dashy clutching up and going on streaks to Kenny’s lighting focus and from Pred’s playmaking to Shotzzy’s ability to run rings around Ultra (and every other team), it was a squad effort this weekend for sure.
This is the first trophy that OpTic Texas has lifted in 805 days. The team has now rocketed into second place in the CDL standings and secured $150,000 in prize money, leaving Toronto Ultra gasping in the dust. During the Scump watch party, the energy became electric as OpTic Texas closed out the grand final without giving up a single map:
Elsewhere in the Major
It was a phenomenal Major from start to finish. For some teams, it was a devastating affair, with the LA Guerrillas, Minnesota Rokkr, Boston Breach, and Las Vegas Legion all being eliminated without winning a single series. Last year’s three-time champion side, the New York Subliners, failed to gain much traction, falling against Atlanta FaZe and then OpTic Texas to be eliminated from the tournament in the closing rounds.
There has to be a special commendation arranged for Atlanta FaZe. This fearsome foursome went on a devastating streak through the Major III qualifying stage, refusing to drop a single series. That momentum almost lasted throughout the entire tournament, but back-to-back losses against Ultra and OpTic put those dreams to rest. This was one of the most well-oiled teams in the CDL this weekend, and the combination of Drazah, Cellium, aBeZy, and Simp was set to well and truly pay off once again.
All eyes now turn to Major IV, which is set to be somewhat of a disappointing affair. Following the electric event in Toronto, Major IV will be held behind closed doors without a live audience. The fans were monumental this weekend and the arena was buzzing, but that magic will be stripped from Major IV following recent changes. It’ll run from June 27 to June 30 following the usual qualifying structure.
After that, it’s the Call of Duty League Championship in Texas – will OpTic net the biggest trophy of them all on home turf?
