Warzone To Appear at Esports World Cup With $1 Million Prize
The EWC Foundation has just revealed that Call of Duty: Warzone will have its own tournament play out during the Esports World Cup. This spectacle of an event will take place over eight weeks this summer in Riyadh, featuring more games and prize money than any event in esport history. It was recently confirmed that Call of Duty will appear during the event, with the series being split between a Modern Warfare 3 tournament and a Warzone tournament.
While the Modern Warfare 3 tournament is worth more in terms of prize money, there’s still a sizeable prize pool for the Warzone event worth $1 million. Teams are already starting to shape up for the event, which will recognise and welcome the best Warzone players from around the world between July 3 – 6.
Prepare for Battle (Royale)
The Esports World Cup posted on Twitter regarding this announcement, divulging the details about the upcoming tournament.
It was revealed that it’ll be a Resurgence-based tournament, with 21 teams of three making their way into the event. Here’s the full format for the Warzone tournament at the Esports World Cup:
Solo Seeding Stage
- Three Groups
- Each Group Plays Four Maps
- Scores Determine Group Stage Seeding
Group Stage
- 21 Teams in Three Groups
- 8 Maps Per Group
- Top 14 Advance to Finals
Finals Stage
- Top 14 Teams Playing for Points
- 8 Maps Played Total
No team will go home empty-handed, either. While the team in the top spot gets a whopping $200,000 prize, even the bottom-most squad at the event will take home $15,500. We’ll likely see lots of organisations surface in the Warzone space now, assembling crack squads to have a better chance of winning big at the Club Championship portion of the event. This will see organisations compete across multiple games to win points and hopefully secure a grand prize worth $7 million.
One team has already been locked in, with Saudi Arabia’s Falcon Esports picking up DiazBiffle, Shifty, and Hisoka, three of the best Warzone players in the world. In the next few weeks, we’ll see more squads surface as the tournament draws nearer.
