Call of Duty: Warzone is one of the most popular battle royale games ever made. It was released in March 2020 to an overwhelmingly positive reception and it flew up the charts, pulling in tens of millions of players with ease. From the studios under Activision Blizzard came this solid, free-to-play game with untold potential, and it became an overnight sensation without any difficulty. How are things now, though? What does the Warzone player count look like in 2025, and how many people are still playing the game?

Like any game, Warzone has had its fair share of ups and downs. Once that honeymoon period had ended, the flaws started surfacing, and some questionable decisions by Activision’s studios pushed players away over the years. With that being said, it’s still a top-tier offering that boasts plenty of players, but how many people play Warzone in 2024? Is it still popular enough to be a top contender in the genre?

Is Warzone Still Good?

‘Good’ is subjective, which means you’ll get a different answer from every person you ask. For the most part, Warzone is still good and boasts enough players to be considered a strong game with a bright future. It’s worth taking some time to check out Warzone tips and tricks so you don’t get left behind.

It’s one of the core offerings within the Call of Duty ecosystem, and in recent years, the game’s esports scene has blown up, which is another positive. It has also enabled the careers of countless content creators since it debuted in 2020, and that continues to be a trend today.

Subjectively, yes – Warzone is still good. It’s a well-built game that doesn’t have many bugs or issues, and even the issues with cheaters that plagued the community for the longest time are being addressed. Activision assembled a crack team to develop a best-in-class anti-cheat solution that seems to work, most of the time. It’s not often thought of as the best battle royale game and is typically outclassed by the likes of Apex Legends, Fortnite, and PUBG, but for a free-to-play shooter, it’s brilliant.

It remains highly accessible and easy to learn. It’s not a complex game with complicated mechanics – it’s designed to be playable by anyone, and that includes novice or beginner gamers with little experience. At the same time, it boasts a solid enough skill gap that more skilled players will find themselves being challenged.

Warzone Player Count Declining

Owing to a change made by Activision Blizzard in how Call of Duty operates, it’s now almost impossible to get any solid data on the game’s player count. Now, every Call of Duty game is represented on data aggregation platforms as just ‘Call of Duty’. That’s how it works now – when you want to play Warzone or Modern Warfare 3, you’ll open a ‘Call of Duty hub’ and select your game from there. That means there’s no way to get reliable info on the player count for Warzone.

Once upon a time, users took advantage of a platform like SteamDB or SteamCharts to obtain a representative figure of the player count on Steam. From there, simple extrapolation gave us a very rough estimate of the number of people playing Warzone. If you look at the graph below, you’ll see that since mid-2023, Warzone ‘2.0’ and Modern Warfare II were effectively lumped together, making it tough to get an accurate picture of either game’s exact data.

How Many People Play Warzone?

So, what does the Warzone player count look like in 2025?

Around 13M players login daily into the game daily, and around 48 million unique players login each month. Unfortunately, owing to changes in how the Call of Duty platform operates, it’s very hard to get an exact figure.

Our data is thanks to the Activeplayer.io data looking across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox – so it includes every platform that Warzone is playable on. Typically, we’d use Steam’s player count (which is transparent) and extrapolate from there, but Activision changed how Call of Duty is presented, so that’s no longer an option.

Instead of ‘Call of Duty Warzone’ being a standalone game, players must now download ‘Call of Duty’ as a core hub, and it’s from there that they choose what they want to play. That’s why it’s almost impossible to get player data for a specific game now.

If we look at the Call of Duty hub on Steam, we can see that in the last 24 hours (at the time of writing), 132,526 people were playing either MWII, MWIII, or Warzone on Steam. It’s worth bearing in mind that most PC gamers use Battlenet for playing Call of Duty on PC, though.

Are Warzone Streams Still Popular?

It’s not enough to just look at the Warzone player count – we should also talk about the game’s popularity on streaming platforms. For the longest time, Warzone was one of the top games streamed on platforms like Twitch, but it has fallen from grace since then. In April 2021, the game peaked at 1,613,626 concurrent viewers on Twitch, but in the last seven days (at the time of writing), the average viewership sat at just 11,091 users.

Over time, we’re seeing a clear decline in the number of people watching Warzone streams, and that’s the same on any platform. Despite Activision’s best efforts to have Raven Software innovate on the platform, it hasn’t managed to retain the viewership figures it boasted between 2020 and 2021. It’s the way things go, though. There’s always a bigger fish out there.
