Counter-Strike Player Calls Out “Disgusting Messages” From Losing Esports Bettors

With the growth of esports over the past decade, the esports gambling space has expanded exponentially. Now, fans can place bets on their favorite teams, matches, and games, with hundreds of titles and leagues included. However, some have resorted to sending abusive messages to players after losing a bet.

It’s no new narrative: your bet loses, you feel aggrieved that the player failed to do what you needed them to do, and you’re down a few dollars. However, some people take it to the extreme and start harassing the players involved. Given the extensive use of social media in esports, it’s particularly easy for individuals to reach out and express their disgust with the players.

CS Player Warns Bettors to “Be Mindful About Addiction”

Australian Counter-Strike player Eddie “Viridian” Azzi is one player who has received some nasty messages after matches, and he took to X/Twitter on December 4 to call these people out.

“It’s one thing to be gambling with individual activities (roulette, black jack, etc.) being in your own space, but to gamble on Sports/Esports and have the audacity to harass and threaten players over bets that YOU made is pure shame,” he said. “Betting on over unders or HS% or whatever, players do not care about your bets. They are playing their own game, fixated on their own goals. You gamble knowing the risk of losing, so why double up after losing and go out of your way to personally message disgusting things.

“Be mindful about your addiction, make attempts to control it, look within, and understand how money is influencing your actions negatively.”

What’s crazy is that, with all due respect to Viridian, he’s a long way from the most popular esports pro. If he receives messages like these, you have to imagine that top stars like Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev or Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok would be inundated with messages from frustrated pundits.
