Best CS2 Workshop Maps | Aim Maps and More!

In Collaboration with Thunderpick

One of the best things about Counter-Strike is its creative community. For years now, fans have been creating custom maps for others to play, offering unique experiences beyond what Valve offers in the base game. The launch of Counter-Strike 2 has continued this tradition, with new tools handed to creators, allowing them more freedom than ever to create awesome maps on the Steam Workshop.

Recently, we’ve been trying out a few of these maps. We want to take a look at the best CS2 workshop maps, highlight the ones we think are the cream of the crop. From aim trainers to 5v5 and Wingman maps, there should be something for everyone here.

Aim Botz – Aim Training

We couldn’t make this list without including some type of aim training map. In our eyes, Aim Botz – Aim Training is one of the best CS2 workshop maps around for warming up, even if it’s a little old at this point. Don’t let its age fool you though. It still has everything you need to get up to speed, and is even used by some of the best CS2 players on the pro circuit when they need to tune up their aim.

Thera

Thera is the new remake of Santorini, which was previously featured in CS:GO. Creator FMPONE has given it a new coat of paint, as a tester for Source 2’s map tools while he creates his remake of Cache. The new Thera is a great map in its own right, however. This Greek island has never looked better, offering exciting 5v5 gameplay on CS2’s most beautiful map. We wouldn’t be surprised to see this one make it into the game in an official manner at some point.

Nuke After Hours

Nuke After Hours is a simple concept. It’s Nuke, but at night. For some reason, it works extremely well – almost too well, in fact. Nuke’s ambiance suits the nighttime aesthetic, and creator deana has added a ton of custom lights to make sure the map is lit in all the right places. We think it’d be really fun to see some high-level matches on Nuke After Hours, but that’s just a pipe dream right now.

Assembly

Assembly is one of the best CS2 wingman maps, full stop, regardless of it being a workshop creation. It has a level of polish one could expect to find in an official Valve map, and even plays extremely well to boot. Assembly is a great example of what can be achieved in Source 2, which is why it stands as one of the best CS2 workshop maps you can download right now. Get three friends and play some Assembly, now!

Only Up!

The CS2 version of Only Up! is frustrating and rewarding in equal measure. When you make progress, it feels awesome, but when you fall, you’re in for a world of misery. Only Up! in CS2 has a greater purpose, however. It’s a fantastic way for players to improve their movement, with the map offering a bunch of different obstacles that will train you to get better in this regard. You might think Only Up! has had its moment to shine, but we think it remains one of the best CS2 workshop maps.

Pool Day

Pool Day is an absolute classic. First appearing in Counter-Strike 1.6, it has now been remade for CS2, showcasing all the fancy new lighting technology. It’s not playable in any Bomb Defusal modes, but it’s fun to shoot bots around the pool in Deathmatch. You can even pop the pool toys!

Biome

Biome is one of the best 5v5 CS2 workshop maps around. It plays like an official map, with all the nuances that come along with that status, and offers interesting visuals with a color palette not really seen in the base CS2 maps. Whenever Valve decides to release a new CS2 Operation, we’d love to see Biome officially added as part of it.

Inferno Night

Another nighttime map, and this time it’s Inferno Night. Just like Nuke, this version of Inferno gives a new perspective on an old classic, with more lights placed to give it an authentic evening feeling. Inferno Night looks far better than it has any right to be, and might even be more interesting visually than the original. Of the list of best CS2 workshop maps, it might not be the most creative, but it’s certainly one of the coolest.

Akiba

Akiba is another interesting 5v5 map set inside a tech expo. This makes the list of best CS2 workshop maps on the level of polish alone. Seriously – while this doesn’t quite play as well as the other maps here, it looks phenomenal. It’s worth a download even just to walk around and explore for a while.
