New CS Player Sells Blue Gem Karambit for $169k
Recently, a brand-new CS player found himself enjoying CSGO, opening cases and doing everything that the average player does. However, in a remarkable twist of fate, he unboxed his first knife – and it just so happened to be the rarest, most valuable knife in Counter-Strike history. He’d secured a perfect Blue Gem Karambit, a skin that has existed for a decade in the game – but only twelve have ever surfaced.
It gets better – for the new player, at least – as that Blue Gem Karambit has now reportedly been sold for a staggering $169,000. In a statement, the player – ‘yurr69’ – explained that he’d be saving the majority of the money for his future. It was also suggested that the odds of securing this knife in a case were something around 0.001%.
Why Are CSGO Skins So Valuable?

It’s worth stressing that a CSGO skin isn’t valuable just because it’s a CSGO skin. There are a few things to take into consideration when it comes to figuring out why CSGO skins can boast such exorbitant price tags. For instance, rarity is a huge driver when it comes to the value of a CSGO skin. Let’s look at the Blue Gem Karambit, for instance. As each skin is a unique entity, it cannot simply be copied, and it can only have one owner – that was yurr69, in this case.
Since 2013, only twelve Blue Gem Karambit knives have been unboxed. That means that out of the millions of CSGO players, there are just twelve out there that can claim ownership of this hyper-valuable skin.
It also comes down to the aesthetic of the skin itself and other elements such as the profile of the skin. There will be some skins that are one-of-one, and in some cases, owners will ‘loan them’ to certain CSGO pro players to use in tournaments, so these skins can get exposure on some of the grandest esports stages in the world of Counter-Strike, making them even more valuable.

‘The Noob Blue Gem’
It’s a perfect example of the inherent value of CSGO skins, with yurr69’s life having been changed by the chance opening of a case on CSGO that contained the Blue Gem Karambit. In the past, the Blue Gem Karambit has been valued at around $1.5 million, but that was a standout example and the sale was never completed.
It was said that yurr69 opened around 200 cases before he secured the Blue Gem Karambit, which is a remarkable return on investment. It’s a random process, so there are players that can legitimately open thousands of CSGO cases and end up with almost nothing valuable. It becomes an even more remarkable story when we take on board the fact that yurr69 was a brand-new CSGO player.
He’d logged around 30 hours in CSGO before unlocking the Blue Gem Karambit. It’s a situation which has almost incalculable odds!
