Brollan at EPL Season 19: “It was maybe not the toughest final”
Just after their 2nd consecutive ESL Pro League victory, we got to speak with Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin about the tournament, the schedule and how it felt to take down Team Vitality.
Sophie McCarthy: First of all, congratulations on winning EPL Season 19!
How are you feeling right now?
Brollan: I’m feeling really good. I mean, I’m in shock to be honest. I think it was maybe not the toughest final, I would say. But it was just a really, really good feeling to come to the final and dominate how we did and, like champions.
It’s a big thing, you know, and coming from where I’ve been at and to be here now. It feels so amazing and yeah, I’m really proud of myself.
Sophie: Of course! I mean, you should be proud. It was one of the most dominant performances we’ve seen from MOUZ in some time.
Did you do anything different to prepare for this final?
Brollan: No, I mean we finished the game against Complexity kind of late so we didn’t have that much preparation, I think. But we usually do normal stuff. Like, we had really good preparation for the last matches and the last maps. Like, we kind of expected to play Inferno and Mirage as the first two maps. We had really good preparation for those maps and we know what to do.
Sophie: That’s great! I did want to ask about map 1. You guys seem to be really having some fun with the chickens and the bell shooting.
What made you want to do that in a Grand Finals?
Brollan: I think we had full eco and so we didn’t have money. I know Kamil and Ádám had some fun spawns.
Sophie: OK, cool! So this tournament was, of course, in a much more intimate environment. You guys had some really loud fans.
Could you hear them at all?
Brollan: Yeah, I mean, they are screaming for Kamil like “siuhyyy” and these things. But yeah, we hear them a lot. It’s really fun to have them more closer than other tournaments but it was really fun to hear them.
I don’t know if we were the favorite in the room, but it sounded like that.
Sophie: I think you probably were by map 3!
And how does that affect your gameplay? Being so close to the fans and being able to hear them?
Brollan: It’s fun, obviously. I think it’s way different compared to the big arenas because the stage is kind of shaking, I would say, in the big arenas now. I mean, they’re obviously really close.
I was really calm in the game, and it felt really good. It was really fun that they were close and they were rooting for us. And Kamil was having fun with the crowd.
Sophie: That’s great to hear. I did want to touch really quickly on siuhy’s performance as an IGL, he had a great performance this tournament.

How does that affect your mentality going into a series?
Brollan: I think everyone played really good this tournament. All fire. I think Kamil just had some really good confidence with everyone in the team. He just has some good trust, like how much he trusts everyone. And I think that he’s more comfortable to play with them.
Just overall, I think he stepped up a lot. I don’t know what he did different outside of the game. But yeah, it’s really fun to see him play good.
Sophie: Yeah, of course. So just one last question for you. You’ve now got Belgrade starting in just two days and then IEM Dallas at the end of the month.
How do you feel about playing so many tournaments back to back?
Brollan: It’s really exhausting, I would say. I mean, we’re flying to Belgrade tomorrow and then we have instant media day, and we’re gonna play the day after. It’s a really tough schedule at the moment, but it is what it is, I think, as a professional player.
I’m gonna be home for, like, five days and then go straight to Dallas. And that’s the last tournament of the season. So yeah, just try to, like, to work as hard as possible now and then more rest after Dallas.
