Counter-Strike Legend dupreeh Claims Valve Rejected Him for Important Role
Counter-Strike legend and five-time Major winner Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen recently revealed that he reached out to Valve in regards to a job with them after announcing his retirement – but it didn’t end well for him.
The Danish legend was looking for a community communications role that would allow him to be a middleman between them and the Counter-Strike community.
Valve Rejected dupreeh
In an interview with Esports News UK, they covered a variety of topics, from the best CS player of 2025 to dupreeh’s continued interest in working as an analyst at events.
As the interview continued and in relation to his new venture working as a developer on Skyward Masters, the former Vitality and Astralis man was asked whether Valve’s limited communication with the CS scene frustrated him whilst he was an active professional. In his response, he said that it’s a “huge issue, and it’s an issue that still stands to this day.”

He explained, “I think it’s been a huge issue, and it’s an issue that still stands to this day. When there’s an update just being rolled out all of a sudden, you’re thinking, why would they make this update? Why wouldn’t they focus on this? Why are they not communicating?
“Why are they not showing and telling the community that we know that, let’s say ‘the cheater issue is a big problem right now,’ or ‘We know that there’s an issue with some of the maps,’ or whatever it could be … They don’t seem to do that.”
As he continued in his answer, dupreeh – one of the most successul CS players of all time – then revealed that he had reached out to Valve to join the CS team and help address this issue, however, that offer was rejected by the developer: “I feel like I could be a pretty good link between them and the Counter-Strike world, both for casuals but also professionals. I reached out to them and said I would like to have some kind of role where I could be this link and listen to what the players had to say, so we could actually level up Counter-Strike a bit more than what it is. But they were not really interested in it.”
dupreeh’s New Venture

With a job with Valve out of the question, dupreeh has instead turned his focus to an entirely new game. That game, Skyward Masters, is now available to be wishlisted on Steam, with the Danish veteran saying that they hope to release it sometime during 2027.
“I think they are just doing their thing, and I feel like they are satisfied with that,” he said of Valve. “That’s their business model. But it’s very important for us coming into Skyward Masters now that, despite us being a very small indie company, and a project that is very limited as of right now, we are already at this stage of taking a lot of the community’s feedback and ideas. We want to engage them. We want to keep them in the loop of what we’re working on and showcase some stuff.”
The game, which has been in development for two and a half years, is currently in a pre-alpha phase. Whilst he is honest in the interview about his role and experience in game development, dupreeh stated that he is helping work on the gameplay and feel of the game, lending his top-level experience to the project in the hope that they can attract a core FPS audience for years to come.
