We’re into the Playoffs of the CS2 Esports World Cup 2024 tournament now, and we’ve already had one spicy result. G2 have taken down Team Spirit, the favorites to win the event in our EWC 2024 CS2 power rankings. We’re taking a look at how G2 upset the odds to come out on top in Riyadh.

The major result of the day came in the final match, where G2 kicked off the Playoffs against Spirit. There’s been plenty of talk about this new G2 roster – can malbsMd take on new roles? Can Snax roll back the years one last time? Against Team Spirit, the answers to those questions were a resounding yes.
The series ran all three maps, although in the end, G2 looked comfortable on the Ancient decider. Credit to G2 – Spirit didn’t lose this match. G2 won it by being the better team on the day, with everyone making their own contributions. We even got to see a Snax pistol 1v3 clutch, for old-time’s sake. When all’s said and done, we’ll naturally be looking at m0NESY as the star performer here, and with good reason. The kid just doesn’t stop pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in CS2. Can G2 now go and win the entire event? With top four now secured, we don’t see why not.

Away from the Playoffs, the rest of the day two matches were centered on the Last Chance bracket. There, it was FURIA who ran the gauntlet to the finish, taking down FlyQuest, Sashi, and The MongolZ in three brutal best-of-one matches.
As is so often the case for FURIA, they have KSCERATO to thank for their Playoffs berth. He was in red-hot form today, determined to extend his stay in Saudi Arabia a little longer yet. With MOUZ up next, he’ll need his teammates to step up if they’re to go any further in the Esports World Cup 2024 CS2 tournament.
