“Fire in the hole” callout in Counter-Strike: What it signifies and how to use it
Fire in the hole Counter Strike callouts have some pretty on the nose meanings, but if you’ve ever wondered what someone meant, here it is.
Fire in the Hole Counter Strike Callout
The callout may seem like a weird thing to hear over the radio, but its something that you’ll hear in game and sometimes in voice comms. Although you’re less likely to hear it as you climb the Counter Strike ranks.
Hearkening back to times of conflict, its actually military jargon. It was historically used by soldiers to warn their team of an explosive being detonated, whether it was a grenade, dynamite, or a cannon shot. Sometimes you’ll find some people using “Fire in the hole” in Counter Strike when tossing in CS2 nades. Usually more appropriately if the utility is offensively minded, such as your Molotov / Incendiary Grenades, or actual Frag Grenades.
The reason we say you’re less likely to hear it as you climb the ranks as knowing what actual util is heading into a conflict is pretty important, really at all levels. But certainly less forgivable as you climb. At lower ranks, casual lobbies, or messing around with friends where comms don’t have to be perfect, it might slip back in. Its a fun roleplay call out that does still have some validity in Counter Strike, with its military routes.
Its not a perfect call out, with specifics being a lot more useful, but conveying threat is still better than fully silent comms.
