k0nfig Retires from Competitive CS2 to Become Player Agent
Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke has officially called it quits. The Danish rifler announced his retirement from professional play on October 15, ending a decade-long Counter-Strike career. He’s stepping away from the server to begin a new chapter – this time as a player agent.
In his farewell message, he wrote, “This is the end of my journey as a professional. Now there’s a new path for me to follow.”
The absolute hardest interview I have ever done. Thank you so much for your support all these years. All the memories both good and bad will never be forgotten. This is the end of my journey as a professional. Now there's a new path for me to follow.https://t.co/H9Tpie3sgJ

From Star Fragger to Problem Player
At his prime, k0nfig was considered one of the most aggressive rifles in the world. His fearless playstyle was a treat to watch, as he could single-handedly change rounds – for better or worse.
Over his career, he’s played for top-tier organizations including North, Complexity Gaming, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and Astralis. With his raw mechanics, k0nfig claimed two Tier 1 titles and was ranked the 14th best Counter-Strike player in the world in 2017.
But, his aggressive tendencies didn’t just show in-game. In 2022, k0nfig was involved in a career-defining incident, where he got into a nightclub fight in the middle of ESL Pro League. The scrap left him with a broken ankle, forcing him to be sidelined for months.
Having to undergo surgery and face all the controversy, Astralis decided to part ways with him, ending one of k0nfig’s most promising stints. After recovering, he had one final run with Ninjas in Pyjamas before going inactive in January 2024.
A New Chapter: Road to Role Model

During his time away from competition, k0nfig took a step back to reflect on his career. He has decided to hang up the mouse and take on a new challenge in becoming a player agent.
It’s a surprising career pivot for someone once known for being volatile, but also a fitting one. k0nfig’s looking to turn from a problem player to a role model, as only very few understand the highs and lows of esports like he does. If he can channel the lessons he’s learned into his new role, this next chapter might be his most impactful yet for the esports scene.
“I don’t want to see anyone else go through what I’ve gone through because it breaks you,” k0nfig said in an interview with HLTV. He’s looking to turn the public scrutiny and mental toll he experienced to ensure the next generation of players receive the proper guidance and support needed to compete.
At the time of writing, it’s still unclear which agency or organization k0nfig will be working with.
