The Brazilian team took down the Frenchmen of 3DMAX in order to lift the trophy, with the game going a surprising way in order for them to do so.

A Legacy Run

Arguably the third strongest team out of the Brazilian teams in attendance at the CS Asia Championships, Legacy impressed throughout thanks to their impressive teamplay and enjoyable brand of Counter-Strike.

The Brazilians kicked off their event with a dominant 13-2 win over Virtus.pro in the group stage before securing a place in the playoffs thanks to a 2-1 victory over 3DMAX. However, they were then denied automatic qualification to the semi-finals, they lost 2-1 in a BO3 versus a resurgent Team Liquid.

As they headed into the Playoffs they first took down FUT, who only recently claimed their first trophy in Counter-Strike 2. The young European squad had also impressed at the event thanks to their consecutive victories over the titans on FaZe Clan. A 2-1 victory for Legacy, eventual MVP winner Bruno “latto” Rebelatto shone in order to see his team through to the semis.

The semi-finals saw Legacy pitted against a HEROIC team that featured a dangerous stand-in in Olek “hades” Miskiewicz. hades had been the highest-rated player in the Group Stage, but the Polish AWPer fell apart in the semi-final, recording a poor 30-35 statline as Guilhereme “saadzin” Pacheco stepped up with 48 kills to see his team book their place in the grand final.

After 3DMAX then took down Liquid in the other semi, the two teams would face off for a chance to win the biggest trophy either of them had won in CS2. Legacy drew first blood with a 13-6 win on Nuke, but 3DMAX then bounced back 13-11 on Dust2 to prevent the Brazilians from going 2-0 up in the series on their map pick.

Map picks continued to be traded as the series went deeper. First, 3DMAX stole away Legacy’s Inferno pick with a 13-5 to put themselves in touching distance of the trophy, but then Legacy forced map five by claiming 3DMAX’s pick of Train 13-10.

Map five, Ancient, summed up just how strong Legacy had been throughout the tournament – they were comfortable from round one as they raced to a 10-2 lead on their CT side. Eventually closing out the map 13-6, they secured themselves the first place trophy as well as $150,000 in prize money and $250,000 in club share.
