PGL Makes Massive $22M Counter-Strike 2 Commitment for 2027-28
Tournament organizer PGL has unveiled a major long-term investment into the Counter-Strike 2 ecosystem, committing at least $22 million in funding across 2027 and 2028 as part of a new Tier 1 event program.
The Bucharest-based organizer confirmed plans to host at least six top-tier CS2 tournaments per year, with a structured calendar and financial framework designed to provide greater stability for teams and players across two competitive seasons.
Under the program, PGL will allocate a minimum of $11 million annually, combining prize money, team revenue shares, participation bonuses, and viewership incentives.

PGL’s roadmap outlines six LAN events in both 2027 and 2028, continuing the company’s focus on large-scale offline tournaments and a competitive format similar to the one used at Counter-Strike Majors.
The 2027 calendar currently includes:
- January 17–24 (Schengen region)
- February 13–21 (Schengen region)
- March 19–28 (TBA)
- April 16–25 (TBA)
- September 3–12 (TBA)
- October 8–17 (TBA)
Another six tournaments are planned for 2028, with dates and locations for most events still to be announced. PGL said additional tournaments could also be added to the 2028 calendar.
The organizer stated that locking in the multi-year schedule aims to give teams greater long-term planning visibility in an increasingly competitive esports calendar.
PGL is already working on several Counter-Strike 2 events, including the Singapore Major in 2026, as well as their 2025-2028 PGL Dota 2 roadmap.
Prize Money and Revenue Sharing Explained
Each year of the program will distribute at least $6 million in prize money and club rewards, split evenly between players and organizations.
An additional $5 million in team revenue support will be distributed through several mechanisms designed to reward both performance and ecosystem contribution.
These include:
- Club Share: $500,000 per event allocated to participating teams based on final placement.
- VRS Invite Bonus: Payments to top-ranked teams that accept tournament invitations.
- Viewership Incentive: A $2.8 million annual pool distributed based on audience engagement metrics across events.

The viewership incentive system will award points to teams based on their average cumulative viewership during tournaments, with the top 16 teams sharing the final payout.
According to PGL, the multi-layered model aims to reward competitive success, consistent participation, and fan engagement rather than relying solely on prize winnings.
Better Support for Teams
The Tier 1 program also includes a standardized hospitality package for participating teams.
PGL confirmed it will cover travel for eight team members, provide single-room accommodation in four-star hotels or higher, and offer dedicated practice rooms with stage-mirrored hardware setups.
Tournament scheduling will also prioritize competitive integrity, with a maximum of one best-of-three series per team per day.
Impact on Counter-Strike 2’s Competitive Calendar
The announcement marks one of the largest financial commitments currently outlined for the Counter-Strike circuit outside of Major championships.
PGL said the program is designed to give organizations a clearer framework for roster planning, sponsorship negotiations, and long-term investment in competitive Counter-Strike.
Further details on individual tournaments and host cities are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
