Several 2026 CS2 Events Won’t Happen as Important Deadlines Missed
A surprise statement from Silviu Stroie, the CEO of tournament operator PGL, has revealed that several Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) Tier 1 events won’t take place next year after certain deadlines were missed.
Both tournament organizers, StarLadder and FISSURE, were directly mentioned, including FISSURE Playground 4 and 5, as well as all of StarLadder’s Tier 1 events, which are currently known as the “Spring” and “Fall” series.

Tier 1 StarLadder & FISSURE Events Miss Deadlines
Silviu Stroie took to X on November 12, 2025, to make a statement that many CS2 esports fans might not want to hear.
The PGL CEO pulled off the bandaid, stating that “several CS2 Tier 1 events in 2026 won’t take place,” and explaining that some tournament organizers “missed the deadline for announcing the additional details.”
Section 4 of the official tournament operation requirements set out by Valve explains the rule:
“The Invite Date must follow the announcement of Additional Information by no fewer than 60 days.”
First reactions are that, due to missing this deadline, the events won’t take place. However, that’s not necessarily the case. It is critical to note that Silviu Stroe didn’t say the events wouldn’t happen because the deadlines had been missed.
At the time of writing, neither StarLadder nor FISSURE has made an official comment regarding the situation. Another tidbit of interesting information coming from Silviu Stroie is that no StarLadder announcement for any Tier 1 event in 2027 has been made—but fans can only speculate as to what this could mean.
What is The Missing CS2 Event Information?
It is unclear specifically what “additional details” were missing for both StarLadder and FISSURE’s events. However, we do have a list directly from Valve that constitutes “additional information” as per section 4.3 of the official tournament operation requirements.
- A definition of the filters to the VRS (if any) that Direct VRS Invites will be based on.
- The VRS rank from which Tournament Operator will begin invitations.
- The number of Rosters subject to a Direct VRS Invite and/or Wildcard Invite, if any.
- The Invitation Date.
- The VRS publication date from which Direct VRS Invites will be issued.
- The VRS publication date which will be used for seeding.
- The visa region where the Tournament takes place, e.g., USA, Schengen, China, etc.
- Whether an Open Qualifier will be part of the Tournament and if so, the rules for such an Open Qualifier.
- Which Tournament stages are online or LAN.
- The prize pool and the rules for its distribution.
- Any integrity or conduct rules that disqualify a Roster from a Direct VRS Invite.
It’s not entirely doom and gloom, as Valve can grant exceptions. At the time of writing, the reasons for the reported missed deadlines are unknown.
