Will there be a new CS2 Operation?

In Collaboration with Thunderpick

The long wait for a new Counter-Strike Operation has now extended beyond 1,000 days. It was believed that one was in the works for Counter-Strike’s 25th birthday celebrations, which came and went without any mention. The release of the recent Counter-Strike 2 update, which included five maps, has left many believing that a new CS2 Operation might not be on the way at all. So, what’s the truth? Let’s dive into it.

Is Valve making a new CS2 Operation?

It seemed to make a lot of sense that Valve would release an Operation on Counter-Strike’s birthday. Community dataminers confirmed that Valve was working on a new CS2 case, and prior to the recent update, it was assumed that the leaked maps that are now in the game would ship alongside a new CS2 Operation.

We now know this wasn’t the case, leaving the question up in the air. However, all hope is not lost. New CS Operations usually launch alongside other big content updates, and it seems that there’s one big thing on the way: keychains.

That’s right: soon, you’ll be able to adorn your CS weapon skins with adorable keychains, showing once again why Valve is the master of monetization. This should come as part of a big update to the game, so as long as keychains are yet to be released, we’re still holding out hope for a new CS2 Operation. Of course, this is purely speculation on our part, but for now, it makes the most sense.

1,000 days is a long time for a gap between CS Operations. With the benefit of hindsight, we now know that Valve was likely working on Counter-Strike 2 for a lot of that time, but it still feels like a new CS2 Operation should have been released by now. While we can’t say for sure, it’s definitely possible that Valve is just done with new CS2 Operations. Only time will tell if this turns out to be true, and frankly, we have no theory on the matter.
