xQc Bet on the Copenhagen Major and Won More Money than NAVI
In recent years, Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel and gambling have gone together like peanut butter and jelly. He has been at the centre of several controversies concerning what has at times been branded a gambling addiction, which has slipped through to his streams on countless occasions. This weekend, the 28-year-old Canadian streamer had a monumental result – he bet on Natus Vincere to win the PGL Copenhagen Major and ended up netting more cash than the team lifting the tournament trophy.
On stream, a pop-up revealed that xQc’s settled bet in favour of Natus Vincere had won him a whopping $842,137.34. It was a return on a $200,000 wager, and when it popped on stream, xQc failed to recognise the magnitude of the sum. He was notified by someone in his chat that he’d effectively won more than Natus Vincere, the team that walked away victorious this weekend in Copenhagen.
Stunning Result
The PGL Copenhagen Major was a monumental event, marking the first-ever Counter-Strike 2 Major. It topped news feeds the world over mostly due to an attack on the tournament by protestors who stormed the stage, disrupting the event and at one point smashing the trophy to the floor. In the run-up to the final stages of the Major, xQc placed a $200,000 bet on MOUZ to win their fixture, but the team was wiped out by G2, leaving xQc with a sour taste in his mouth.
He wasn’t waylaid for too long, though. Soon after, he was waiting eagerly for the result of the grand final between FaZe Clan and Natus Vincere, having placed another $200,000 wager.
Lengyel originally blamed the MOUZ loss on the protestors that stormed the stage, causing the team to ‘lose momentum’, but he was nothing short of jubilant to learn that his later bet was successful. It made up for his lost bet a couple of times over, that’s for sure.
Ultimately, Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel was left with a payout exceeding $840,000, while Natus Vincere netted a total prize worth $500,000 (out of a $1.25 million pool). Bizarrely, xQc didn’t even realise that he would make almost twice what the winning team would secure for winning the entire event. It might be that he’s losing touch with the value or money or he thought the tournament was worth much more than $1.25 million.
