New Counter-Strike cases are not a common occurrence these days. A new drop is always exciting, and you can get your hands on new weapon skins to personalize your CS experience. One of the new CS2 cases, The Kilowatt Case, features 17 weapon skins and is the first official case in Counter-Strike 2.

Unlike all Counter-Strike cases bought on the marketplace, you can only get a new CS case by purchasing it directly from the game. These packages usually cost $1.99, and you often don’t even have to buy a key to open them. For skin collectors, this could see the prices of the new CS2 skins dramatically decreased due to the increased accessibility.
The latest Counter-Strike cases aren’t an in-game reward. It will be interesting to see if Valve decides to keep the Kilowatt Collection in the store indefinitely. All Counter-Strike cases usually have a limited period with an increased drop rate, after which they raise in price. Having an infinite supply would mean that the price stays low, forever.
Once a case has been floating around for a while, you’ll be able to purchase it from the Steam Community market too.

Sometimes, Valve purchases skin designs from creators in the community, giving them a one-time fee to include it in the last CS2 case. It’s no small fee either, so getting into a Counter-Strike case is a big deal for community developers. One report has suggested that some of the skins in the Anubis Collection were first designed back in 2018, and left unused until Valve decided to pick them up for the new Counter-Strike case.

As of January 2023, there are still almost 40 Counter-Strike cases that are still available for purchase. You don’t necessarily have to wait for drops, but it can add a little more spice to your games if you do. With CS2 just around the corner, you may be wondering about how your skins will be affected.
