Following a massive and lengthy development cycle, Baldur’s Gate 3 was finally released on August 3rd, 2023 on PC, and September 6th, 2023 on PlayStation 5. It effectively took over social circles and streaming platforms within hours of its release, storming to the tops of the charts the world over and stunning audiences with its remarkable performance. However, Baldur’s Gate 3 didn’t launch on one key platform – Xbox.
Months have now passed since the initial launch of Baldur’s Gate 3, and the game remains a smash-hit success. But is Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox now? Let’s find out!

It’s a well-known fact that the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release date was pushed back by a lengthy period. But it’s not necessarily well-documented why. In a series of statements released by Larian Studios, it was revealed that Baldur’s Gate 3’s Xbox development was hampered by technical issues on the Xbox Series S – the ‘weaker’ Xbox console on the market at the moment.
Not wanting to alienate what could be millions of gamers, Larian Studios opted to push back the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release date until it was ready to release on both Xbox consoles.
That date finally arrived on December 7th, 2023. That’s the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release date, with both Series X and Series S consoles receiving the game right at the end of the year. Just after The Game Awards 2023, Larian stealth-dropped Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox, surprising and delighting gamers around the world.
However, it came at a cost. The split-screen co-op performance issues that had delayed the Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox release date proved impossible to overcome, and the feature was cut from the Series S version. It was a one-of-a-kind exception for Microsoft, which usually insists on feature parity between both consoles.
