Need to know how to help downed party members in Baldur’s Gate 3? A character on your squad will receive three death-saving throw checks every time they reach 0 HP. If all of these are successful, the character will be able to get back up and carry on the fight on their own.
Although this is a clever mechanic, what happens if they don’t pass the death saving throws? You’ll need want to revive them as soon as possible and not rely solely on passing the checks. Even if they manage to get revived, their HP will be low and in a position to be downed again.

Any character under your control that runs out of health points (HP) won’t die immediately. Instead, when their HP drops to zero, the game will knock them down and start rolling a 20-sided die for them. The process of rolling saving throws to determine whether your character survives or dies starts now.
Once a character rolls saving throws, a life and death counter will appear above their head. If the game rolls a 10 or lower, a death counter will be added. They will receive a stability counter if their roll is more than 10. This automatic rolling process will resume when the fallen character’s turn begins. If they fail their saving rolls three times, they die. But that doesn’t mean you can’t bring them back.
This mechanic is pretty much identical to how death works in DnD 5th Edition.
Even after a character has technically failed their saving throws and is out of the fight, there are still ways to bring them back. Here are some of the best ways to help downed Baldur’s Gate 3 companions.

You can stop an ally’s saving throws and bring them back up quickly once they’ve been knocked down. Use the “Help” command to raise a downed teammate if you move another character within five feet of them.
Make sure your helper character is right next to the downed one.
You can spend your movement to move over to the downed character if you need to.
Click the hand-holding icon located on the left side of the actions menu.
Select the characters that needs help.
You’ll spend your action helping them, so most Tavs won’t be able to attack this turn.
When using the Help command, be careful that the person helping doesn’t put themselves in too much danger by supporting their ally too much. They could risk being downed themselves in the process.
A character using a healing spell will automatically recover as if they have rolled three successful rolls while still in the middle of their saving throws. They’ll also receive the amount of HP that the spell would usually give too.
If you don’t have a spellcaster in your party, healing spells aren’t off the table. One of our top Baldur’s Gate 3 tips is to pick up or buy as many scrolls and potions as you can and share them out between your party.

If the worst should happen and someone on your team does die a permadeath, hope is not lost. If you cast the spell from a Scroll of Revivify, they will return instantly. Higher level clerics and wizards can also cast Revivify with a spell slot, which is one reason why it’s worth knowing how to free Shadowheart early on.
To cast Revivify with a scroll:
Make sure you have a Revivify scroll in an alive party member’s inventory
Select the scroll and select the dead body of your ally
Choose where you want the ally to be resurrected
Cast the spell and they’ll come back to live on 1 HP
