Does Civilization 7 Have Crossplay?
Sid Meier’s latest game is almost here, so you may be wondering if Civilization 7 has crossplay. You wouldn’t be alone in that. Crossplay is a staple of modern gaming since so many players play games on different platforms. It’s worth knowing if any game you get will allow you to play with your friend on Xbox if you’re on PC or PlayStation or vice versa. Is that the case for Civ VII?

Does Civilization 7 Have Crossplay?
Civilization VII is not a console exclusive. It is set to be released in less than a week on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. It’s one of the most widely available games to come out in 2025, and it doesn’t even limit players to current-gen consoles. Civ 7 is not limited in any way.
Will those consoles be able to play with one another? The answer is a resounding yes. The developers answered this and many other questions in an FAQ section on the game’s website, saying, “Players who link their 2K Account to Sid Meier’s Civilization VII will be able to play multiplayer across any platform of choice.”
It’s not as straightforward as that, though. On Xbox, PlayStation, and PC up to five players will be supported in the Antiquity & Exploration Ages. That number rises to eight in the Modern Age. On Switch, four players can play in the Antiquity & Exploration Ages, and up to six players can join in the Modern Age.
There is a further limit as well. The Nintendo Switch is an underpowered console, so it has some limits. “Nintendo Switch version is not expected to support map sizes of Standard and above, which also applies for multiplayer cross-play with Nintendo Switch players,” the devs said. Other than that, there are no limits. Everyone else can play with every other console without any restrictions. One of the top strategy games is available pretty much everywhere on February 11.
