3 Teams to watch at The Chongqing Major

The Chongqing Major, the second Major of the Dota Pro Circuit, is about to start. One million dollars is up for grabs and a total of 15.000 qualification points for The International 2019.

In this article I will offer you a brief analysis of the 3 most important line-ups participating in the tournament.

Evil Geniuses

EG went from finishing 3rd at The International 2018 to getting another 3rd place finish at The Kuala Lumpur Major. They haven’t looked amazing in recent weeks, but they still have one of the best rosters in the world. So there’s very little chance that they will disappoint.

Going into The Chongqing Major, EG should get at least a top 6 result. I don’t think that a Grand Final is in the cards for them at this point, although the roster is capable of it.

Virtus.pro

VP finished last season as the best team in the world overall, even though their result at The International 2018 was a little bit wanting. People were expecting at least a 3rd place and they only got a 5th – 6th after they had dominated the Dota Pro Circuit throughout the year.

In this new season, Virtus.pro already won the first Major of the season and pretty much secured itself a spot at The International 2019. It is virtually impossible for them to miss this qualification regardless of what happens during the remaining 4 Majors of the season.

Going into The Chongqing Major, the expectation is that Virtus.pro will get at least a top 4 result. A great deal can happen when the top 4 or 5 teams in the world meet each other. But until that happens, competitors such as Virtus.pro should have a rather easy life and path to success.

Team Secret

Team Secret is the second best team in the circuit, although the likes of PSG.LGD, Evil Geniuses and Team Liquid are more than likely their equal or very close to it.

Secret finished in 4th place last season and 5th – 6th at The International 2018. At the first Major of this new season, Team Secret finished 2nd after VP. It was a 5-game Grand Final but VP won in the end.

Based on their previous results during this season, Team Secret is another clear candidate for a top 4 position. How high they can climb is yet to be discovered. But in terms of strength, Secret is definitely a great team right now.
