There is a big difference between banter and insult, but Wang “Ame” Chunyu seems to have crossed that line. Recently, the Chinese Dota 2 player directed some personal insults towards former pro player Song “Sccc” Chun. The root of their conflict remains somewhat ambiguous, but it has been reported that Ame made several derogatory remarks about Sccc during his live stream, sparking significant backlash.

Details about Ame’s comments
According to various sources on Bilibili, including a dedicated Dota 2 Reddit thread about the incident, Ame, who plays for Xtreme Gaming, launched a verbal assault against Sccc. This included disparaging Sccc’s fans by referring to them pejoratively as an “army of dogs.” Furthermore, he made several personal attacks against Sccc himself. The context here is that Sccc is a retired Chinese soldier.
Ame’s comments also went as far as to mock Sccc’s stuttering and insult his family. He even targeting Sccc’s mother with disrespectful remarks.
The rumored cause of these insults appears to be a series of ranked matches where Sccc won against Ame. This might have led to Ame’s outburst on his live stream. During this stream, Ame went on to mimic Sccc’s stuttering speech in a mocking manner and derogatorily nicknamed him “Sbbb,” a term implying stupidity in Mandarin.
Community Reaction to the Ame x Sccc Controversy
The Chinese Dota 2 community has expressed strong disapproval of Ame‘s behavior. He has faced backlash particularly for his insults directed at Sccc’s mother. This has led to Ame being nicknamed “Ae” within the community, a label implying that he has no mother.
There were various speculations regarding Ame’s motivations, with various rumors circulating such as jealousy and bad experience in-game. One of the more prominent theories suggests a previous match where both players were teammates. During this match, Sccc’s unconventional gameplay reportedly led to a significant loss, ending Ame’s winning streak. Nonetheless, this doesn’t justify Ame’s comments at all.
Apparently, this match occurred quite some time since the recent incident, dating back to when Ame was still inactive from competitive Dota 2.
Sccc’s Response To Ame’s Comments
The International 2017 runner-up, Sccc has publicly stated that he was deeply hurt by Ame’s remarks. Especially since there was no personal acquaintance or previous confrontation between them. He emphasized the inappropriateness of insulting his mother and fan base in such a public manner, expressing his disbelief and sadness over the incident.
So far Ame or his team, Xtreme Gaming, haven’t issued a public statement or apology for the remarks. The incident has sparked a broader conversation about how childish and inappropriate Ame’s behavior was as a professional Dota 2 player. Regardless of the circumstances, professional players have the responsibility of acting appropriately in public, as such actions are in poor taste.
