Aurora Forfeit to BetBoom in DreamLeague Elimination Game

It’s one of the most unfortunate things that can possibly happen in a game of Dota. Imagine being over 60 minutes into game 3 of an elimination series and then disconnecting due to internet troubles. That’s what happened to Aurora this afternoon in their DreamLeague season 23 series against BetBoom.

What happened in Aurora vs. BetBoom?

After a certain point in a game of Dota, the only things that matter are Roshan timings and the high ground siege. Aurora vs. BetBoom game 3 was turning into one of those games. The 32k gold advantage didn’t matter. The hero draft didn’t matter and essentially, the items didn’t matter either.

What did matter though being able to connect to the server and that wasn’t something Aurora Gaming was able to do.

After disconnecting from the server during a rare moment of comparative down time in this game, the team couldn’t get back in. This appears to have been due to a connection issue at their location.

In a statement released on X, Aurora confirmed that they will take 7th-8th place at DreamLeague Season 23. They will now certainly have to compete in regional qualifiers to make it to Riyadh Masters too.

As one of the standout teams in the SEA region, it’s really disappointing for fans. This was Aurora’s first showing since the game changing patch 7.36 dropped and while the game was in chaos, they did stand a chance at coming out on top.

Forfeits aren’t common in Dota and if they are, it’s usually down to an org not being able to field an appropriate roster in time. It’s safe to say that Aurora will have to rethink where they’re team is competing to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

It’s worth remembering that BetBoom weren’t exactly getting stomped. They fought their way through game one but fell before 30 minutes in game 2. Now, they move onto the lower bracket quarter finals and have to face off with Tundra Esports later today.
