Dota 2 System Requirements: What Do You Need to Play?

Dota 2 is by no means a new game. It’s also not particularly demanding on your PC. But if you’re working with an older computer, graphics card or RAM, you might struggle to play the game on the best settings. Here, we have the Dota 2 system requirements and everything you’ll need to play on PC and Mac.

Minimum Dota 2 System Requirements

It’s not really advisable to play any game with the absolute minimum requirements as you may experience performance issues. The better your equipment is, the easier the game will run. That means better loading times, better graphics and an overall better gameplay experience.

Dota 2 is a game where even micro seconds count. Each interaction can have far reaching consequences later on in the game. If you’re experiencing lag, you may run into problems during team fights. This is why making sure you’re running at better than the minimum is pretty important.

While Dota 2 only requirements Windows 7, remember that from January 1st, 2024, the Steam Client will only support Windows 10 and later so we’d recommend having Windows 10 installed.

Mac minimum requirements

OS: macOS 10.13.6 or newer
Processor: Dual core from Intel
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: Metal-capable GPU (AMD GCN-based GPU or newer, NVIDIA Kepler-based GPU or newer, Intel HD 4000 or newer)
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 60 GB available space

You can also technically play Dota 2 on the Steam Deck, but we’d recommend not doing so. The controls are very difficult to get to grips with and you’ll be at a real disadvantage. This is also why it’s likely that Dota 2 won’t come to mobile devices either.
