Falcons Win ESL One Birmingham Major

It’s been a full week of some of the best Dota 2 we’ve seen in a looong time. From 75 minute games to a denied Aegis to the spiciest in-game chat, this event has been one to remember. Now, after an 3 game series, that was really something of a stomp, Team Falcons have been crowned the champions of the ESL One Birmingham Major.

Grand Falcons

Things started off well for Team Falcons in game 1. The KotL and Razor mid lane match up didn’t exactly work out as BetBoom hoped. They dropped off a little towards the mid game but realistically, there was nothing to stop Malr1ne running up the high ground without even the need for megas.

BetBoom looked in complete control of game 2. Until they didn’t. Turns out you can pick of Ammar’s Doom as many times as you want but if you don’t deal with Skiter’s Sven, you’re going to have a bad time.

But after losing 2 games back to back, BetBoom really seemed to lose their stride in game 3. Mars, Timbersaw and Dragon Knight made a total meal of the burst cores on BetBoom. Although we would have loved to see BetBoom come out on top in at least one game, Falcons just played better Dota.

Maybe there would have been a chance if they did put the Gyrocopter in position 1, but Terrorblade needs time to come online and that was time he simply didn’t get.

Falcons cementing Dota 2 legacy

Falcons are a super team made of some true Dota legends. TI winner Sneyking has really found his feet in the new roster. This team really doesn’t suffer from Ammar’s pretty limited hero pool. Between Malr1ne and Skiter, we could have another Gaimin Gladiators on our hands.

This is the first time ESL One has come to Birmingham in 5 years and it really didn’t disappoint. The crowd and atmosphere were really second to none. Perhaps this event can set the stage for more Dota and more esports events to come.
