The Regional Qualifiers for The International 2018 are already underway and the best Dota 2 teams in every region are fighting valiantly to claim one of the remaining tickets for the greatest tournament of the year.
Participants and results per region
The TI 8 qualifiers are taking place for the following regions:
CIS
This region received 1 qualification spot for The International 2018 and the teams that have been fighting for it in the regional qualifier are the following:
- Winstrike Team (former FlyToMoon)
- Team Spirit
- ESPADA
- Double Dimension
- 20 min afk les
- Gambit Esports
- Team Empire
- Vega Squadron
The first 4 of these teams have already qualified for the Playoffs stage of the CIS regional qualifier and at the time of this writing, Winstrike Team is waiting in the Grand Finals for the winner between ESPADA and Team Spirit.
China
China received 2 qualification spots for The International 2018 and the battle for these spots took place between the following teams:
- For The Dream
- Team Serenity
- LGD.Forever Young
- Invictus Gaming
- Keen Gaming
- Young Dumb
- iG Vitality
- CDEC Gaming
The two teams that qualified were Team Serenity and Invictus Gaming. IG was definitely expected to qualify, but Team Serenity is a total unknown at this point.
South America
Like the CIS region, South America received just one qualification spot and the teams that have been fighting for it are the following:
- SG e-sports
- paiN Gaming
- Thunder Predator
- Torus Gaming
- Infamous
- Midas Club
The first 4 of these teams have already qualified for the Playoffs stage of the South American regional qualifier and are waiting to compete. No doubt, the winner will be either paiN Gaming or SG e-sports, with the first having slightly higher chances to emerge victorious.
North America
The most privileged of all 6 regions, North America received no less than 3 qualification spots for The International 2018, a controversial Valve decision that stirred a debate within the community.
The teams which will be competing for these 3 spots are the following:
- Evil Geniuses
- OpTic Gaming
- VGJ.Storm
- Immortals
- compLexity Gaming
- Team Baidu
- Team Leviathan
- Jsut a Squad
No doubt, the first 3 of these teams are by far the favorites to emerge victorious and claim the 3 existing tickets.
Southeast Asia
Southeast Asia received 2 spots and the teams which will be competing for them are the following:
- Fnatic
- TNC Pro Team
- TNC Tigers
- BOOM ID
- Alpha Red
- Entity Gaming
- Battle Arena Elites
- Sterling Global Dragons
The battle will no doubt take place between the first 3 of these teams. The others have little to no chance of making it through.
Europe
And finally, we have Europe, a region with a lot of great teams in it but only one qualification spot for The International 2018. The teams which will be competing for this spot are the following:
- Team Kinguin
- The FInal Tribe
- Kingdra
- Singularity Esports
- OG
- Wind and Rain
- BlinkPool
- Alliance
Among the top contenders I would name OG, Alliance and BlinkPool, although many of these teams are so evenly matched that absolutely anything could happen.
