The fallen
After the Group Stage, 8 of the 16 teams advanced to the Lower Bracket, where they had to survive a Bo1 elimination match in the first round. These 8 teams were the following: paiN Gaming, TNC Predator, Tigers, paiN X, Team Aster, J.Storm, Forward Gaming and Gambit Esports.
Of these 8, only 4 are still in the run. And they’re not exactly the ones that people were expecting to qualify after the first round of matches. Well, not all of them at least. TNC Predator, paiN X, J.Storm and Forward Gaming are the survivors and will be competing in the coming days for a chance to get a top placement at The Kuala Lumpur Major. The teams the had to beat, namely paiN Gaming, Tigers, Team Aster and Gambit Esports, are out.
The Upper Bracket
At this point, only 4 teams remain in the Upper Bracket and 3 of them are among the top 4 in terms of skill at this event. Team Secret will be taking on PSG.LGD while Nijas in Pyjamas will be facing Virtus.pro.
There’s at least an 80% chance for PSG.LGD to beat Team Secret and Virtus.pro to beat NiP. That being said, we’ll still have to see what Secret can do against the TI 8 finalist and what ppd can do against its nemesis, Virtus.pro. Last season, the current captain of NiP lost quite a few times against Solo and his squad while being at the helm of OpTic Gaming. Honestly, I’m quite skeptical against his chances in this encounter but who knows? Miracles do happen from time to time.
The Lower Bracket
In the Lower Bracket, there are 4 matches to be played in the next round. These are the following:
Alliance vs. TNC Predator
TNC Predator should easily overcome Alliance in this match, as the skill difference between them and their opponent is quite dramatic.
Vici Gaming vs. paiN X
Here, it is definitely Vici Gaming who is the favorite. Even though the Chinese team lost 0 – 2 against Team Secret, it is still much stronger than paiN X and should end the match in two quick games.
Fnatic vs. J.Storm
With its new roster, Fnatic is a very strong side for any opponent and it is certainly the side to wager on in this match.
Evil Geniuses vs. Forward Gaming
This one will be tough to predict. The result could go either way but I do expect Evil Geniuses to emerge victorious. The team’s surprising loss against Ninjas in Pyjamas was almost for sure a result of ppd’s perfect understanding of how the players of EG like to approach the game. As a former captain of this team, he knows its 2 most important players very well.
