This merger will see the football club’s esports division rebranded, now taking on the title of PSG Quest. Their collective aim might be to make a powerful debut at the International 2023 (TI12), the premier Dota 2 championship. Considering how formidable PSG Quest has been throughout the 2023 season, PSG is in good hands to get its namesake recognized as one of Dota 2’s top team sponsors.

But who is Quest Esports, you ask?
Rapidly gaining traction since its debut, Quest Esports was originally called Ooredoo Thunders in 2022. However, following a restructuring of partnerships and Ooredoo’s subsequent departure, the team underwent a rebranding process, emerging as Quest Esports.
Since then, they’ve been a notable entity in the competitive esports landscape, showcasing talent and even earning their recognition as one of the Big Four in WEU.
PSG’s past Esports partnership
For context on PSG’s Esports history, the football giant isn’t new to supporting the Dota 2 competitive scene. PSG’s earlier alliance was with LGD Gaming, which began in 2018.
The synergy between the two was nothing short of remarkable. As competing under the collaborative banner of PSG.LGD, the team not only participated in but also ascended to the pinnacle of the Esports accomplishments, making it to the TI finals in 2018 and then again in 2021.
While the termination of PSG’s partnership with LGD marked a grave disappointment for fans earlier in September 2023, as rumors floated about TI12’s poor funding and appeal might have jeopardized potential and existing investors. PSG Quest partnership seals the deal that Dota 2 is still a viable Esports genre.
As for LGD, we don’t have to be too saddened by their loss of a sponsor because the Chinese mobile game powerhouse, HoYoVerse, recently picked up the torch to sponsor not just LGD but also the other TI12 Chinese representative, Azure Ray.
To sum things up, the collaboration between Paris Saint-Germain and Quest Esports, forming PSG Quest, is a testament to Dota 2’s thriving Esports despite the various restructurings on the Dota Pro Circuit.
PSG Quest is set to face off in Group D, where heavy hitters, such as Tundra Esports, the TI11 Champions and Talon Esports, come off as top dogs. Regardless, PSG Quest’s prowess puts them among the best teams to advance into TI12 Playoffs.
