Razor Dota 2 Guide – Great Anti-Carry in Patch 7.07d
Razor is known as a very good anti-carry hero, having several qualities which make him perfectly suited for this role:
- He has high movement speed due to his Unstable Current ability, which passively gives him a +4%/8%/12%/16% boost in this department.
- He can drain an enemy hero’s damage and use it himself, with the Static Link ability. A total of 56/112/168/224 can be stolen during the 8 seconds duration of the Link.
- He can damage and reduce his targets’ armor with his Eye of The Storm ability.
Razor is usually played as a carry or mid-laner. The hero can be very hard to lane against, because he can use his Static Link and superior movement speed to drain all of your damage, leaving you unable to last hit creeps or even stay close to them. He is tanky and team-fight oriented, allowing you to do early pushes, take objectives, and be aggressive on the map.

Razor Item build
Razor’s item build should generally be designed to improve the hero’s durability, sustainability, mobility, attack range and damage. Here are some of the most efficient items for this hero:
- Phase Boots: their damage improves your last hitting in the laning phase, and the bonus movement speed you get from their active ability allows you to stay close to your Static Linked targets.
- Ring of Aquila: gives you good damage, armor, mana regeneration and stats.
- Sange and Yasha: greatly improves your movement speed, gives your attacks a 40% chance to slow an enemy’s movement and attack speed by 13%/13, and boosts your strength, agility and attack speed.
- Desolator: if you’re going for an aggressive damage oriented build, this item synergizes very well with Razor’s Eye of the Storm ability, which deals physical damage and reduces a target’s armor.
- Assault Cuirass: a very good choice for durability, attack speed, armor reduction and team-fighting (due to the Assault Aura).
- Shiva’s Guard: this item is good for slowing enemies’ attack and movement speed. It also makes you very tanky against physical damage, due to the +15 armor bonus.
- Hood of Defiance: by having the ability to steal a target’s physical damage, Razor can naturally protect itself against this type of damage. And when buying a Hood of Defiance, the hero becomes very durable against magical damage as well. The item also provides good health regeneration.
- Black King Bar: this item is essential if the enemy team has a lot of disables and you don’t have good enough crowd control and initiation in your line-up to neutralize them.
- Hurricane Pike: gives you excellent stats, health regeneration, mobility and +140 attack range. If you can’t afford the entire item, consider buying at least one of its components (Dragon Lance), as Razor has a relatively short attack range (475).
- Butterfly: if you want a combination of damage, attack speed and survivability.
- Eye of Skadi: gives you very good stats and allows you to slow an enemy’s movement and attack speed by 35%/45 for 2.5 seconds with your attacks. This attack modifier (named Cold Attack) pierces magic immunity.
- Linken’s Sphere: if you’re being targeted by powerful abilities that pierce magic immunity (Doom, Rupture, Fiend’s Grip, Duel) and are neutralized in fights because of this.
- Aghanim’s Scepter: increases the frequency of your ultimate’s strikes and allows this ability to also target buildings.

Razor Abilities Explained
Plasma Field
This ability deals a minimum of 30/50/70/90 and a maximum of 160/230/300/370 magical damage. This damage is divided into 2 instances that both hit a target once. The wave of energy emitted by Razor grows in power as it expands: the further the target, the higher the damage it takes.
Static Link
This ability allows Razor to drain a target’s damage and gain it himself. When using this ability on an enemy hero, Razor must stay close to its target in order to drain its damage. The longer it manages to do this, the higher the damage it drains. The link’s break distance is 800.
Static Link can also be used on illusions and summons, such as Warlock’s Golem, Lone Druid’s Spirit Bear and Visage’s Familiars.
Unstable Current
This passive ability gives Razor a great movement speed bonus and also damages, slows and purges buffs from enemies who are near to him.
Eye of the Storm
This is Razor’s ultimate, dealing physical damage and decreasing the armor of nearby targets. Enemies lose 1 armor per strike and this debuff lasts until the storm is over or Razor dies. Strong ability to use against the best Dota 2 players on the enemy team.
Static Linked targets and heroes are prioritized by the storm, which stays above Razor’s head and has a 500 search radius.

Best Razor Talents
- +15 agility / +200 health – You should take the agility bonus, unless you want to play the hero as a tanky frontliner and intend to build durability items.
- +4% Unstable Current movement speed / +7 Static Link damage steal – The second talent is almost always more valuable.
- +10 armor / -0.1s Eye of the Storm strike interval – You should take second option if your primary role in fights is to deal damage.
- +100 attack speed / -3s Unstable Current strike interval – The first talent is almost always better than the second in a late game scenario, but against certain heroes that have powerful buffs (such as Omniknight), you may want to take the second one for the purge effect.
Skill build
The order in which you should maximize Razor’s skills mostly depends on your playstyle. In general, people go for a 4-1-1-1/4-2-0-1 build for the first 7 levels, and then proceed to max out Static Link and Unstable Current in this order, using points for talents and the ultimate ability in between. But a build that focuses on early game mobility and the ability to quickly steal a lot of damage from enemy heroes can be equally good.

When to pick the hero
Razor tends to be a great choice whenever you are playing against a line-up that heavily relies on physical damage and has two or more right clickers with limited mobility. For example, heroes like Templar Assassin, Ursa, Sven, Lifestealer, Juggernaut and Legion Commander are strongly countered by Razor.
Steal the Damage of Your Enemy
Razor is a tanky and very mobile hero that can quickly steal a target’s damage and use it against their entire team. Because of this, he is regarded as an anti-carry, being able to render a key right clicker useless in team fights and turn his power against his own team.
