Redditor explains how playing Dota 2 made LoL feel dull
We finally have a clear winner here, Dota 2 might just be the superior MOBA, at least according to one LoL player. To quote Reddit user, Mr-Showbiz, “Took a break from League to try DOTA and now I literally can’t go back.”

A LoL player’s confession
It takes guts and putting aside your love for a game you dedicated thousands of hours into, to confess that the rival game is much more fun.
Mr-Showbiz is a top player in high-Platinum rank, which is roughly the equivalent of an Ancient player in Dota 2. As such, he’s certainly above the level of your average Dota 2 rank, so expect him to know the fundamentals of MOBA at the very least.
In Mr-Showbiz’s Dota 2 Reddit post, he shared how he had decided to go on a hiatus from playing LoL after having a series of frustrating losses in ranked games. He blames that having a poor laning phase often resulted in an inevitable loss because there’s just no good comeback potential in LoL’s scaling.
As such, he spent that time trying out Dota 2 instead, which he has heard various feedback that it’s just as toxic and extremely dense in terms of the game mechanics. Nevertheless, he gave it a shot, and had an absolute blast playing 20 hours of unranked Dota 2 fun.

His thoughts on Dota 2 vs LoL
Despite the short time spent in Dota 2, Mr-Showbiz was in awe of the complexity of Dota 2 mechanics, hailing its comeback potential. Agreeably, Dota 2 has had some of the best comeback stories to-date, with 30-40K gold leads often vanishing in merely several wrong moves. On the contrary, Mr-Showbiz states that LoL’s bounty system and super minions granting higher gold just aren’t sufficient to overcome a one-sided game.

He also added that the Dota 2 hero diversity and overpowered skillsets somehow balance each other beautifully. Unlike LoL, where most champions are designed to be as balanced as possible to ensure a fair match, Dota 2 hero drafts play a major factor in deciding a game’s success.
Dota 2 Community’s response
Mr-Showbiz’s Reddit post received positive sentiment among others, many who have also had the chance to experience both MOBAs. Most players seem to agree that despite the overpowered nature of a hero’s skillset on paper, the unique and similarly overpowered nature of every other hero ultimately made for a balanced Dota 2 meta.
And we really must give a shoutout to Icefrog and the Dota 2 dev team for always dishing out unique major updates from time to time. If we have to name a few notable additions to the Dota 2 game, Aghanim’s Shards, revamped map and buildings in New Frontiers, Talent Trees, Neutral Items, and of course, most recently, Innate Abilities and Hero Facets in Dota 2 Update 7.36
With Mr-Showbiz’s newfound love for Dota 2 over LoL, that’s one point in Dota 2’s book that the community can be proud of.
