PGL’s announcement on Virtus.pro’s TI14 decision

As the International 2025 (TI14) regional qualifiers is scheduled to start in two weeks, PGL’s announcement on VP’s absence from the Eastern Europe Regional Qualifier shocked fans of the powerhouse’s decision. Sure, VP has definitely seen better days than in 2025, but they are still around and competing in Dota 2 tournaments.

Well, it turns out Virtus.pro didn’t forget their plans to compete at TI14. Instead, they will be competing in Western Europe instead.

Virtus.pro in TI14 WEU Regional Qualifiers

Even with VP’s statement on competing in another region, it begs the question on why all the hassle of doing so. According to Georgy “drAmer” Faleev, Head of Dota 2 at Virtus.рro, the team initially intended to play in WEU because the MESWA (Middle East & South West Asia region) falls under the WEU in TI14 regional qualifiers. Hence, why Nigma Galaxy, an organization based in MESWA is also competing in TI14 WEU Regional Qualifiers.

However, unlike Nigma Galaxy and even Team Falcons that are MESWA-based orgs, VP is based in Russia. In fact, none of the players are of nationalities from countries in MESWA region, let alone WEU. The only other statement provided by VP to justify their reasons to play in TI14 WEU Regional Qualifiers was that three of their players live in Western Europe at the moment.

Eligibility to participate in WEU regional qualifiers aside, VP is even willing to start from their TI14 journey from the open qualifiers. But, given that TI14 WEU Regional Qualifiers offer two qualifying slots at TI14, perhaps that was enticing enough for VP to compete in WEU anyways. That’s double the chances of securing a slot at TI14 and as cherry on top, rivals in the WEU region have been mediocre recently. With staples like Nigma, AVULUS and OG , these are by no means a tougher challenge than its Eastern Europe counterpart, where Aurora Gaming is competing in.

Thus, VP is still in the running to compete at TI14 via the WEU regional qualifier route. Be sure to catch their TI14 qualifiers journey live from June 13-17, assuming they make it past the open qualifier.
