WSOE #1 analysis and preview

WOSE #1 or World Showdown of Esports #1 is a tier 2 Dota 2 event sponsored by RoG and organized by ESPGaming. The tournament brings together 8 teams, is scheduled to take place between October 14th – 15th and has a prize pool of $100.000.

Participants

Being a relatively small event compared to what Dota 2 usually offers these days, WSOE #1 only features a few tier 1 teams along with a bunch of other tier 2 competitors. Still, the matches should be fun to watch and there is also the possibility to bet on them while taking little to no risk, simply because the strong contenders will likely have a very easy life against the lesser known team.

The 8 participants of WSOE #1 are the following:

  • Team Serenity
  • Alliance
  • compLexity Gaming
  • Storm
  • paiN X
  • ROOONS
  • The Final Tribe
  • HAPPY GUYS

The first 2 of these teams are by far the most likely ones to win the tournament. The others’ strength and pecking order is yet to be revealed.

Event format

WSOE #1 will be played in 2 stages. In the Group Stage, the teams will be divided into 2 groups of 4 and will have to play one Bo1 match against every opponent. At the end, the top 2 teams advance to the Playoffs Stage, which consists of 2 Semifinals (Bo3) and one Grand Final (Bo3).

Group A

  • Team Serenity
  • paiN X
  • Alliance
  • HAPPY GUYS

Group B

  • compLexity Gaming
  • Storm
  • The Final Tribe
  • ROOONS

In theory, Team Serenity and Alliance should be the winners of Group A while compLexity Gaming and J.Storm should advance out of Group B.

Prize pool distribution

WSOE #1 offers a prize pool of $100.000. The money will be distributed among the 8 participants in the following way:

  • 1st place: $50.000
  • 2nd place: $20.000
  • 3rd – 4th place: $10.000
  • 5th – 6th place: $3.000
  • 7th – 8th place: $2.000

Tournament predictions

Personally, I expect Team Serenity to win this event and there is very little that can change that. Perhaps Alliance or compLexity can stand a chance against them, but I wouldn’t count on it.
