Arena Breakout Devs Deny Copying Escape from Tarkov
In a recent debate, it was claimed by Battlestate Games that MoreFun Studios, the developer behind Arena Breakout Infinite, had copied content from Escape from Tarkov. In a series of posts shared on social media, Battlestate’s Nikita Buyanov let rip at MoreFun, making direct allegations that the team had outright plagiarised Escape from Tarkov, the spearhead extraction shooter title that has been on the market since 2016.
However, in a recent response, MoreFun Studios categorically denied plagiarising Escape from Tarkov. Evidence suggests they could be speaking disingenuously, but the community is still split. Many players simply don’t care about the ongoing debacle, as Battlestate Games has found itself in hot water with the community in recent weeks. That has pushed a lot of gamers into Arena Breakout Infinite, which has emerged as a solid contender to Escape from Tarkov.
Focused On Other Things
In a statement handed to PCGamesN, MoreFun’s producer, Yiming Sun, said:
‘We respect the intellectual property rights of others and believe in the importance of IP protection. The alleged copyright infringement is untrue. Instead of getting caught up in the noise on social media, our current focus is ensuring the beta continues to run smoothly so that we receive player feedback and deliver the best game we can make.’
Recently, BSG’s Nikita Buyanov was seen on social media comparing weapon models and in-game assets taken from EFT and Arena Breakout Infinite. He then made comments regarding data pulled from the latter game that revealed references to early Escape from Tarkov content, including an old name for an enemy boss character that wasn’t publically revealed. With evidence like that, it seems tough to believe that there hasn’t been any plagiarism, but many have doubted Buyanov’s intentions.
It’s no big secret that Battlestate Games has sabotaged itself somewhat in recent months. The reveal of The Unheard Edition was enough to cripple the developer – even if temporarily – and many thousands of players, including the game’s biggest streamers, relocated to Arena Breakout Infinite. That has led many to claim that Buyanov is acting out of jealousy or spite.
Until it’s taken into a legal setting, the claims of plagiarism are nothing more than a social media-based dispute and will ultimately amount to very little.
