Latest Escape from Tarkov Update Links EFT and Arena
Escape from Tarkov is still struggling to recover from recent controversies, but it’s gaining ground fast. In a recent update, Battlestate Games’ Nikita Buyanov laid out the future of Escape from Tarkov and Tarkov Arena, outlining the key changes coming to the ecosystem in the next few months. The latest updates for Tarkov Arena and EFT are now available, and the core element of this joint patch is the linking of the two games.
That means that player progress and assets are shared between the two games. There’s also a new trader surfacing that acts as a go-between for these two titles. New elements have been introduced in Tarkov Arena that have been present in EFT for some time, such as daily and weekly tasks, and a sizeable stash has been brought into Tarkov Arena to facilitate the transfer of items between the two instances.
Tarkov and Tarkov Arena, Combined
At the heart of the two updates (0.14.9.0 for EFT and 0.1.8.0 for Arena) sits a new trader – Ref. Otherwise known as The Host, Ref can be unlocked in EFT by completing a basic task: ‘Easy Money. Part 1’. He’ll sell high-tier weaponry, rare armour, and containers – amongst other things – in Escape from Tarkov. He’s set to become one of the most valuable traders in Tarkov, but most of his items can only be bought using GP coins or the new ‘Lega’ medals that have just been introduced.
Canonically, Ref also facilitates the transfer of roubles, GP coins, and medals between EFT and EFT: Arena. He’ll have a new quest chain that transcends the line between the two games, with some only being available in EFT: Arena. Contrary to prior claims, Ref won’t be available in the PvE mode introduced a few weeks ago, much to the chagrin of the community.
With this latest round of updates, EFT and Tarkov Arena are finally synchronised. That means that players can level up one core character in both Tarkov and Tarkov Arena, sharing reputation values, some skill and weapon mastery points, and character levels.
In Escape from Tarkov only, some new items have been introduced:
- ‘Arena’ Armband
- APOK Tactical Wasteland Gladius (melee weapon)
- Theta Secure Container
The Theta Secure Container will be one of the most sought-after items in Escape from Tarkov. It’s remarked as being ‘the ultimate Arena champion reward’ and boasts 10 storage slots, making it the biggest secure container behind Kappa. It’s ever-so-slightly bigger than Gamma, which is the container previously awarded exclusively to those who purchase the Edge of Darkness Edition. It’s now something that’s given to those purchasing The Unheard Edition.
Finally, Battlestate Games has implemented a customisation mechanic that allows users to change their profile badge and nickname colour.
