Fortnite Festival used to have its own separate battle pass with its own exclusive items. When it debuted, players couldn’t get that skin without getting the pass. There was always an alternate version of that skin available to everyone else in the Item Shop, but the one style was exclusive. The red suit The Weeknd skin was different from the other version, but it was used to entice people to get the battle pass. Now, Epic Games has made a subtle change that completely changes things.

When Fortnite lost exclusivity on battle passes, everything changed. That wouldn’t ordinarily have such a huge bearing on Fortnite Festival, but it did. Before they removed exclusivity, the Festival pass had one version of the artist. The Item Shop had the other. Now, that’s not the case, as the other style eventually landed in the shop anyway.
Furthermore, and this is the most important change, Epic is no longer even including a special skin in the battle pass. Once Festival passes were added to Fortnite Crew, the special, alternative, exclusive skin was no longer there but in the shop. ShiinaBR and some other leakers reported this.
This isn’t a huge surprise. The inclusion of Festival in Fortnite Crew made it so much easier and less financially lucrative for Epic Games. The way to offset this is to sell more things in the Item Shop. So that’s what Epic did, and players eventually caught on.
It might’ve made the pass less valuable, but it does allow more opportunity overall for players to get the special skins. At least, players who don’t purchase the oft-overlooked game mode’s battle pass have more of a chance now. All in all, though, it probably has meant more money for Epic, a developer that thrives off of in-game purchases since the game is free. Sabrina Carpenter is the current headliner.
