Fortnite Mad Max Collab Reportedly Planned but Scrapped in Season 3
If you thought Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 was a little Mad Max-themed, you wouldn’t be wrong. The desert landscape akin to the Wasteland featured in those films and more made direct comparisons to the film franchise. There was a lot of evidence to think that the season was at least paying homage to the movies, which began in the 1970s and have persisted to 2024. Now, a leak suggests that Epic Games might have been planning to do more than just pay homage to the franchise.

Leak Suggests Planned Fortnite Mad Max Collab Last Season
According to leaker ShiinaBR, a crossover between Mad Max and Fortnite was part of the initial plan. Unfortunately, Fortnite opted not to do it. The timing was absolutely perfect, though.
The fifth film in the franchise, Furiosa, was released in May, and that was the prime of Chapter 5 Season 3. Some sort of crossover would have made sense. Based on the theme and the gameplay of the season, it was shocking that there wasn’t one. Players now know that it was planned but canceled. The reason for scrapping the idea is unknown right now.
If looking at everything from Season 3, it’s pretty clear that Epic Games wanted there to be a crossover. The Wasteland, which seemingly came out of nowhere, was just like the open desert of Mad Max. The gameplay was car-centric, as is everything in those films. Characters drive modded vehicles, and much of the fighting takes place from within the cars. They would crash into each other, shoot at other vehicles, and try all manner of vehicular warfare in the movies. Sound familiar? That’s exactly how the gameplay was in Season 3.
The focus was on modding vehicles and providing them with items to attack with. Players would drive around the sand shooting and hanging out of car windows. There are multiple scenes in the Mad Max franchise that happen just like that. Players could have recreated some of the best action set pieces from those films minus the skins necessary.
Either way, Epic Games did scrap the official collaboration entirely. It’s unfortunate, but they were still able to secretly crossover without using any licensing.
