The Fortnite Item Shop could be undergoing a major change soon. The Item Shop has virtually operated in the same way almost since its inception. In 2017, when Battle Royale was first released, the Item Shop had rotations just like it does today. The potential that a skin, emote, glider, or anything else might leave soon drove people to purchase them more quickly.
There was no guarantee it would be around any longer, so players had no choice. Even if they were waiting to level up to get more V-Bucks, they might have had to purchase them to ensure they didn’t miss out on a cosmetic. That could very well be changing soon based on the latest leak.

The latest leak from renowned data miner ShiinaBR is not about a new skin, a new map change, or an event animation. Instead, it’s about a much more significant change. For the first time in Fortnite history, the Item Shop items will have timers on them. There is a daily rotation that will run out every 24 hours, but each item will have an expiration date, so to speak.
For example, if you go to the Item Shop now and view the items, you will see all the Star Wars cosmetics. They don’t have an expiration date, but they won’t stay forever. Under the new changes, each item would have one. So in this example, the Star Wars Zorii Bliss skin might say it’s leaving on May 17, 2024. This is confirmed by in-game text that was discovered directly from Epic Games which reads: “Adding the date that an item will rotate out of the shop to the Item Description on May 24, 2024.”
So beginning in less than two weeks on the same date that Chapter 5 Season 3 arrives, the shop will be forever changed. Now, you won’t have to spend V-Bucks on sight when a good cosmetic arrives, because you can wait until it’s about to leave and decide on what’s available. There still won’t be any way to know what’s coming next, but you’ll know how long you have to get any cosmetic you see.
