Fortnite iOS Return Hits Snag: When Does It Release?
After nearly five full years, Fortnite was headed back to iOS devices. It has always been on mobile for players who used Android devices, but the testy Apple v. Epic lawsuit ended in turmoil for iOS players. There was a light at the end of the tunnel, though, as there has been news of an eventual iPhone and iPad return in America for several months. That was supposed to happen very soon, but it hasn’t yet.
Unsurprisingly, there’s been some holdup.

Fortnite’s Return to USA iOS Delayed
Fortnite has been stuck in Apple’s App Store review process for more than 70 hours at the time of writing. Each app that goes up is subject to a review to make sure it’s appropriate and that it doesn’t violate any terms of service for Apple. This is not unique to Fortnite. It’s happening because it has been removed from the App Store since August 2020. In that time, the game has changed a ton.
Generally speaking, apps are done being reviewed fairly quickly. An estimated 50% of them get reviewed and go live in the first 24 hours. 90% get done within the next 24 hours, so the vast majority are done after two days. This one has been stuck for a very long time, and it’s unclear why.
Some might point to the unpleasant relationship between Apple and Epic, but that’s unlikely. Apple stands to gain some from having Fortnite back on iOS devices. They also have it back on iOS in other regions, so it’s just the USA that is currently facing issues.
There could be a ton of apps in front of Fortnite that are still being reviewed. Apple never claimed to have all apps done in a certain amount of time, so they’re not technically beyond any deadline. It just seems like it’s taking forever because it’s the end of a nearly five-year battle. A few more days may be agonizing, but it’s not all that much in the grand scheme of five years.
